Responsibilities

• Diagnose and treat patients under supervision according to established standards of best practice for the post holder's specialty.
• Supervise junior medical staff and assist with on-call duties as required.
• Comply with hospital policies on admissions, consultations, and patient care and maintain proper documentation.
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and coordinate with other services to plan holistic patient care.

Job description

The Specialist Physician shares the same responsibility of the Consultant Physician for delivering high quality evidence-based and patient-centred care The post holder is expected to be an example of clinical excellence within the Division and contributes to the supervision and training of junior medical staff

Qualification

Managerial Administration Supports and adheres to all hospital departmental and divisional initiatives policies and procedures Supports and participates in the organization s performance management system including peer review and the productivity and utilization review processes Assists with Consultant staff in ensuring that adequate medical coverage is provided within the Division at all times Attends Divisional meetings as invited Supports the reporting investigation and response to untoward incidents Assumes other administrative or clinical duties as requested by the Consultant Staff

Technical

Under the supervision of the Consultant Physician diagnoses and treats patients according to established standards of best practice for the post holder s specialty

• Assists the Consultant Physician in supervising the activities of junior medical staff and jointly assumes responsibility for the care they provide
• Complies with all hospital polices regarding admissions consultations daily patient care surgical procedures discharge protocols outpatient and follow up practices
• Practices appropriate utilization of the organization s resources
• Leads ward rounds reassesses both inpatients and outpatients on a regular basis in line with established best practice
• Accurately documents all relevant clinical information in a clear and timely fashion in accordance with established procedures
• Regularly reviews results of all investigations and modifies treatment as required
• Liaises with other medical specialties and support services for additional input as required
• Actively participates in multi-disciplinary meetings to help plan effective safe and holistic care for individual patients
• Ensures preparation of patients for all procedures including obtaining informed consent
• Accepts clinically appropriate referrals from the Emergency Department primary care other departments specialty clinics walk in patients and patients referred from other hospitals
• Participates in and supports the Consultant Physician in ensuring the provision of out of hours on call coverage on a rotational basis including evenings nights weekends and public holidays as required
• Communicates clinical information to patients and the patient s family and friends with consent of the patient in a timely manner
• Maintains a good working relationship with members of staff and promotes collaboration and a team-based approach to patient care
• Performs other clinical responsibilities as assigned

Help support quality improvement initiatives within the Division Supports a culture of regular audit and encourages the use of audit results for improving clinical practice Supports the reporting investigation and response to untoward incidents

Education
