Job summary

The Specialist Physician at SEHA in Abu Dhabi is responsible for delivering high quality, evidence-based and patient-centred care in collaboration with the Consultant Physician. This role supports supervision and training of junior medical staff and participates in ward rounds, multi-disciplinary meetings, and adherence to hospital policies.

Qualifications

• Tier structure outlined: post-board certification experience requirements for UAE/HAAD pathways.
• Clinical experience milestones depend on tier level with internationally accredited institutes.
• No extra experience required for UAE nationals post board certification at Tier 1.

Responsibilities

• Leads ward rounds; reassesses inpatients and outpatients regularly.
• Documents clinical information clearly and promptly per procedures.
• Participates in multi-disciplinary meetings to plan holistic patient care.
• Ensures patient preparation for procedures with informed consent.
• Accepts referrals from Emergency Department and other sources.
• Supports Consultant with on-call coverage and supervision of junior staff.
• Maintains collaboration with staff and supports ongoing clinical duties.

Education

Tier 1: No additional experience required post board certification.

Tier 2: NLT 2 years of clinical experience post qualification in internationally accredited institute.

Tier 3: NLT 3 years clinical experience as Specialist post qualification in internationally accredited institute

Job description

The Specialist Physician shares the same responsibility of the Consultant Physician for delivering high quality, evidence-based and patient-centred care. The post holder is expected to be an example of clinical excellence within the Division and contributes to the supervision and training of junior medical staff.

Responsibilities

Managerial/AdministrationSupports and adheres to all hospital departmental and divisional initiatives, policies and procedures.
Supports and participates in the organization’s performance management system, including peer review and the productivity and utilization review processes.
Assists with Consultant staff in ensuring that adequate medical coverage is provided within the Division at all times

Attends Divisional meetings as invited

Supports the reporting, investigation, and response to untoward incidents

Assumes other administrative or clinical duties as requested by the Consultant Staff
Technical

• oAssists the Consultant Physician in supervising the activities of junior medical staff, and jointly assumes responsibility for the care they provide
• oComplies with all hospital polices regarding admissions, consultations, daily patient care, surgical procedures, discharge protocols, outpatient and follow up practices
• oPractices appropriate utilization of the organization’s resources
• oLeads ward rounds; reassesses both inpatients and outpatients on a regular basis, in line with established best practice
• oAccurately documents all relevant clinical information in a clear and timely fashion in accordance with established procedures
• oRegularly reviews results of all investigations and modifies treatment as required
• oLiaises with other medical specialties and support services for additional input as required
• oActively participates in multi-disciplinary meetings to help plan effective, safe and holistic care for individual patients
• oEnsures preparation of patients for all procedures including obtaining informed consent
• oAccepts clinically appropriate referrals from the Emergency Department, primary care, other departments, specialty clinics, walk in patients, and patients referred from other hospitals
• oParticipates in and supports the Consultant Physician in ensuring the provision of out of hours on call) coverage on a rotational basis including evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays as required
• oCommunicates clinical information to patients and the patient’s family and friends (with consent of the patient) in a timely manner
• oMaintains a good working relationship with members of staff and promotes collaboration and a team-based approach to patient care
• oPerforms other clinical responsibilities as assigned

Quality & SafetyHelps support quality improvement initiatives within the Division

Supports a culture of regular audit and encourages the use of audit results for improving clinical practice

Supports the reporting, investigation, and response to untoward incidents

Education
Promotes and participates in clinical research and publication

Promoting and assisting in the instruction, guidance and supervision of junior medical staff (required)

Keeps abreast of the current, relevant literature and the latest trends and technologies in the industry

Participates in clinical research and publication.
