Job summary

Geotab in Dubai is seeking a Software Developer to join a team building a state‑of‑the‑art telematics platform that makes sense of data from custom hardware. You will thrive in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment and contribute to code quality and architectural decisions.

The role requires 1–5 years of related experience, a degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering, and proficiency in C#, Java, Python, and cloud services (GCP/AWS/Azure).

Qualifications

• 1–5 years of required previous experience in a related field.
• Post-secondary Diploma/Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Knowledge of multiple general purpose programming languages (e.g. C#, Java, Python).
• Experience with Python, Google Compute Engine, and Google BigQuery.
• Working knowledge of Cloud computing with GCP, AWS and/or Azure.
• Proficiency using Google Suite for business (Sheets, Docs, Slides).
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Listen and contribute to design discussions and document requirements and technical design.
• Provide guidance to junior team members and share knowledge across teams.
• Perform quality assurance via peer review and coding standards checks.
• Analyze call stacks and performance data to troubleshoot root causes of bugs.
• Assist in prototypes, MVPs, and proofs of concept development.
• Support our staff and resellers from a technical perspective, on-call as needed.
• Research new language features and frameworks and advise leads.
• Help define team best practices and produce design/maintenance documentation.
• Ensure functionality, performance, scalability, and realistic schedules.

What you'll do:

To be successful in this role you will be a strong team-player with an entrepreneurial mindset, comfortable in a flat organization, highly organized, and able to work well under pressure to respond to fast changing priorities and deadlines. In addition, the successful candidate will have excellent written and oral communication skills, strong analytical skills with the ability to problem-solve to well-judged decisions, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

How you'll make an impact:

• Listen and contribute to design discussions and make detailed notes and documenting requirements and technical design.
• Provide guidance to more junior team members, sharing knowledge across the teams.
• Perform quality assurance by doing peer review, ensuring coding standards are followed, looking for logic errors and other bugs.
• Analyze call stacks, trace files, performance data to troubleshoot and identify the root cause of bugs.
  
• Participate in development of prototypes, minimum viable products and proofs of concept.
  
• Provide assistance to our support staff and resellers from a technical perspective. This may be in the form of on-call or ad-hoc questions
• relating to how certain features work or verifying the behaviour by reviewing code.
  
• Research new language features, frameworks and other relevant technologies and offer recommendations to Leads and senior leaders.
  
• Assist in defining best practices to be used in the team.
  
• Provide design documents and documentation to ensure efficient maintenance and code reuse.
  
• Ensure the functionality, performance, scalability, reliability, realistic implementation schedules and system architecture for each assignment.
  
• Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotating schedule.

What you'll bring to the role:

• 1 - 5 years of required previous experience in a related field.
• Post-secondary Diploma/Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  
• Knowledge of multiple general purpose programming languages (e.g. C#, Java, Python), as well as experience with Python, Google Compute Engine, and Google BigQuery.
• Working knowledge of Cloud computing experience with GCP, AWS and/or Azure.
• Technical competence using software programs, including, but not limited to, Google Suite for business (Sheets, Docs, Slides).
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and engage with all levels of the organization.
