Job summary

Hitachi Energy Systems LLC in Dubai is seeking a Senior Service Engineer to execute retrofit upgrades, system extensions and modifications for Substation Automation and deliver SLA programs. You will lead medium to high complexity projects, ensuring on-time, on-quality and on-cost delivery while adhering to safety and contractual obligations.

You will act as a technical interface with customers, develop HMIs, coordinate design docs, and support tendering with engineering estimates.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors or masters in electrical engineering, power systems automation or related field.
  • 610 years of experience as an SCMS engineer with proven design, testing and commissioning expertise.
  • Strong knowledge of Substation Automation Systems and related communication protocols (IEC 101/104, IEC 61850, LON, SPA, Modbus).
  • Proficient with Hitachi Energy MicroSCADA and RTU systems and various IEDs.
  • Hands-on experience with common engineering tools listed in the ad.
  • Solid understanding of control logic interlocking and power system principles.
  • OT cybersecurity knowledge and testing methodologies.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% to customer sites.
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written).

Responsibilities

  • Represent the Service Engineering function in project and customer meetings and help shape project execution plans.
  • Serve as a key technical interface with customers ensuring Hitachi Energy is seen as a trusted partner.
  • Execute engineering activities: design, manufacturing, system integrations, factory testing and on-site support.
  • Develop HMI configurations and system databases per project specifications.
  • Coordinate with customers and external parties to finalize designs and acceptance testing.
  • Prepare comprehensive project documentation including drawings, architecture, schedules, FAT/SAT procedures, MoS, RA and RCA reports.
  • Ensure compliance with internal processes, regulations, cybersecurity and safety protocols.
  • Mentor colleagues and promote technical excellence and collaboration.

The opportunity

As a Senior Service Engineer you will play a pivotal role in executing retrofit upgrades system extensions and modifications for Substation Automation systems and delivering Service Level Agreement (SLA) programs. You will lead assignments of medium to high complexity ensuring all project activities are completed efficiently cost-effectively and fully aligned with contractual obligations quality standards and safety requirements.

  • Execute engineering activities such as design manufacturing system integrations factory testing and support in site implementations in accordance with approved processes to ensure on-time on-quality and on-cost delivery.
  • Develop HMI configurations and system databases according to project specifications.
  • Coordinate with customers and external entities to finalize design concept documents acceptance criteria resolve open items and complete acceptance testing activities.
  • Prepare project documentation such as Panel Drawings System Architecture Signal Lists Functional Description Component Configuration Documents Project schedules FAT & SAT procedures Method of Statement (MoS) Risk Assessments (RA) Site Visit Reports Incident Reports and Root Cause Analyses (RCA) in coordination with team leads and project managers.
  • Ensure strict compliance with internal processes external regulations cybersecurity requirements and safety protocols.
  • Support continuous improvement by providing structured lessons learned supporting claims (scope cost and time impacts) and enabling product and process enhancements.
  • Contribute to the development of engineering estimates during tendering helping define work scopes and collaborating with cross-functional teams to solve complex challenges.
  • Perform system modifications extensions and upgrades including -Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) energization checks and final system acceptance as required.
  • Manage external partners providing equipment or services ensuring compliance with health safety and quality requirements.
  • Actively mentor and support colleagues fostering a culture of technical excellence and collaboration.
  • Take initiative to drive innovation improve engineering solutions and enhance customer value.

  • Strong command of Substation Automation Systems including communication protocols such as IEC 101 IEC 104 IEC 61850 LON SPA Modbus and others.
  • Advanced proficiency with Hitachi Energy MicroSCADA and RTU systems as well as IEDs from various manufacturers.
  • Hands-on experience with engineering tools like MS Office Visio IET ITT PCM MiCOM DIGSI and related applications.
  • Solid understanding of substation control logic interlocking schemes and power system operational principles.
  • Intermediate knowledge of OT cybersecurity standards practices solutions (Firewall NIDS WSUS RADIUS Configuration) and testing methodologies.
  • Willingness to travel 20% to customer sites.
  • Analytical and problem-solving mindset with the ability to identify and mitigate risks and challenges.
