Job summary

Confidential is seeking an experienced veterinarian to oversee animal health on a commercial dairy operation. You will monitor livestock, conduct clinical exams, diagnose and treat diseases, and lead preventive healthcare and vaccination programs.

You will manage herd health, reproductive programs, and goat/sheep health where relevant, enforce biosecurity, maintain records, and train farm staff to uphold high welfare standards. Flexibility to respond to emergencies is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in veterinary medicine (DVM/BVSc or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
  • 7–9 years of relevant professional experience in veterinary practice.
  • Experience on commercial dairy farms is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with goats and/or sheep is highly preferred.
  • Strong practical experience in herd health management, disease diagnosis, treatment, vaccination, and preventive medicine.
  • Experience in reproductive management and fertility programs is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the overall health and welfare of livestock and conduct regular clinical examinations.
  • Diagnose and treat diseases, injuries, infections, and other health conditions.
  • Develop and implement preventive healthcare and vaccination programs.
  • Establish appropriate treatment protocols and ensure proper use of veterinary medicines.
  • Monitor disease patterns and take timely corrective and preventive actions.
  • Provide emergency veterinary care when required.
  • Conduct post-mortem examinations and investigate causes of mortality.
  • Develop and manage comprehensive herd health programs for dairy animals.
  • Monitor herd health indicators, including morbidity, mortality, fertility, and production performance.
  • Identify health issues affecting milk production and animal productivity.
  • Advise farm management on nutrition, housing, hygiene, and other factors affecting animal health.
  • Work closely with farm and animal-care teams to maintain high standards of livestock management.

  • Monitor heat detection, breeding, pregnancy diagnosis, calving/kidding, and postpartum health.
  • Identify and manage reproductive disorders.
  • Maintain and analyze reproductive performance records and recommend improvement measures.
  • Provide veterinary care for goats and sheep and support vaccination, parasite-control, and disease-prevention programs.
  • Monitor common diseases and health challenges affecting small ruminants.
  • Support breeding and reproductive health programs for goats and sheep.
  • Establish and enforce farm biosecurity protocols.
  • Monitor and control infectious and contagious diseases.
  • Implement quarantine procedures for new or sick animals.
  • Ensure hygiene and sanitation practices within housing and treatment areas.
  • Coordinate disease investigations and outbreak-control measures.
  • Maintain accurate veterinary, treatment, vaccination, reproduction, mortality, and health records.
  • Monitor medicine usage and maintain withdrawal-period records.
  • Prepare regular veterinary and herd-health reports for management.
  • Supervise and guide veterinary assistants, animal health technicians, and farm staff.
  • Train farm personnel on animal handling, disease recognition, basic animal care, hygiene, and biosecurity.
  • Promote best practices in animal welfare and livestock management.
  • Work closely with farm management, nutritionists, production teams, and other departments.

  • Coordinate disease investigations and outbreak-control measures.

Records & Compliance
  • Maintain accurate veterinary, treatment, vaccination, reproduction, mortality, and health records.

  • Monitor medicine usage and maintain appropriate withdrawal-period records.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable veterinary, animal welfare, food safety, and regulatory requirements.

  • Prepare regular veterinary and herd-health reports for management.

Team Management & Training
  • Supervise and guide veterinary assistants, animal health technicians, and farm staff.

  • Train farm personnel on animal handling, disease recognition, basic animal care, hygiene, and biosecurity.

  • Promote best practices in animal welfare and livestock management.

  • Work closely with farm management, nutritionists, production teams, and other relevant departments.
