Job Description: Senior Trader
About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Senior Trader to join our trading team based in Dubai. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record in commodity/international trading, deep market insight, and the ability to manage end-to-end trading operations. Reporting to the Head of Trading, you will play a pivotal role in sourcing, executing and managing trades, while shaping strategy and safeguarding risk in a fast-moving global market.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute trading strategies for specified commodities/products, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives.
  • Monitor global supply & demand dynamics, price movements, geopolitical factors, logistics/distribution constraints, and competitor activity.
  • Identify, negotiate and establish relationships with suppliers, producers, buyers, freight/logistics partners and other key stakeholders.
  • Manage the full trade lifecycle: sourcing contract negotiation shipping/logistics arrangements financing/settlement delivery and after-sales.
  • Optimize pricing, margins, and risk exposure (e.g., currency, commodity price, counterparty risk).
  • Collaborate with treasury and finance teams to structure exposure hedging, settlement and funding models.
  • Liaise with operations, legal, compliance and distribution teams to ensure seamless execution and full regulatory adherence.
  • Lead and mentor junior traders or trading assistants; drive continuous improvement and build best-practice frameworks.
  • Provide regular market intelligence, trade performance reports and forward-looking insights to senior leadership.
  • Proactively identify new trade corridors, product lines or growth opportunities; support business development efforts.
  • Maintain high standards of integrity, transparency and ethics in all trading activities.
Requirements & Skills
  • Bachelors degree (Finance, Economics, Business, Engineering or similar). A masters or further professional qualification is a plus.
  • Minimum 7-10 years of hands-on trading experience in commodities / international trade (middle-to-senior level).
  • Deep understanding of global commodity markets, logistics/distribution chains, shipment/shipping operations, financing mechanisms and risk management.
  • Proven success in negotiating and executing large-scale trades, liaising with producers, buyers and logistics & freight partners.
  • Strong analytical skills: able to interpret market data, financial metrics, contract terms, shipping costs and other levers to assess trade viability.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills; comfort working across cultures and time-zones.
  • Leadership credentials: experience in guiding and developing trading support staff, driving process efficiency and implementing improvements.
  • Resilience, commercial acumen, ability to work under pressure, make rapid decisions and manage multiple trade streams concurrently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and trading/ERP systems; comfort working with large data sets, dashboards and financial reports.
  • Willingness to travel internationally as required (to meet suppliers, attend trade shows, inspect logistics operations, etc.).
