Job summary

The EDGE Group PJSC, via ADASI, is seeking a Test Equipment Systems/Development Engineer in Abu Dhabi. You will design, develop, integrate, validate, and maintain test equipment for UAV systems and subsystems, enabling repeatable and certifiable testing across avionics, electrical, mechanical, propulsion, and software domains.

You will lead automated test software, HIL and simulation setups, and ensure compliance with aerospace standards while supporting system integration and V&V activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Mechatronics is required.
• Master's degree in Automation or related discipline preferred.
• 10+ years in design/deployment of test equipment for aerospace/defense.

The Test Equipment Systems/Development Engineer is responsible for the design, development, integration, validation and lifecycle support of test equipment used to verify the performance, functionality, and compliance of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) systems and subsystems. This role is critical to ensuring repeatable, safe, efficient, and certifiable testing across avionics, electrical, mechanical, propulsion, communications, and software domains.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1.Test Equipment Design and Development

• Design and develop custom and commercial test equipment, including hardware and software, for system and subsystem verification.
• Define technical and functional requirements for Automated Test Equipment (ATE), Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop (HIL) systems, simulation rigs, and integration benches.
• Specify and develop test interface hardware, signal conditioning circuits, wiring harnesses, and instrumentation for laboratory and field environments.
• Develop test solutions suitable for safety‑critical and mission‑critical systems in compliance with aerospace and defense standards.

2. System Integration and Test Automation

• Develop and maintain automated test software and scripts using tools such as Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB/Simulink, and C/C++.
• Integrate test equipment with telemetry systems, data acquisition platforms, and real‑time or non‑real‑time simulation environments.
• Ensure interoperability with aerospace communication protocols including:
• RS-422 / RS485
• ARINC 429
• CAN Bus
• Ethernet‑based systems
• Support HIL testing and closed‑loop verification activities.

3. Verification, Validation, and Maintenance

• Plan and support verification and validation (V&V) of test equipment to ensure accuracy, repeatability, reliability, and compliance.
• Develop and maintain:
• Calibration plans
• Preventive maintenance procedures
• Failure investigation and root cause analysis reports.
• Manage configuration control, versioning, and change management of test hardware and software.

4. System and Subsystem Test Support

• Subsystem and system integration testing
• Environmental, functional, endurance, and acceptance testing.
• Collaborate with systems engineering, integration, and test teams to ensure:
• Adequate test coverage
• Full traceability to system and subsystem requirements.
• Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation, including:
• Test plans, procedures, and reports
• User manuals and maintenance guides
• Troubleshooting instructions
• Compliance and certification evidence.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s Degree (Required) in any of the following:
• Electrical Engineering
• Mechatronics Engineering
• Master’s Degree (Preferred) in any of the following:
• Automation Engineering
• A related technical discipline.

Professional Experience

• Minimum 10 years of experience in the design and deployment of test equipment for aerospace or defense applications, preferably within the UAV domain.
• ATE and test benches
• HIL and simulation systems
• Hardware/software integration test solutions.
• Demonstrated experience in:
• Safety‑critical systems testing
• Requirements management and traceability
• Test planning, procedure development, and formal test reporting

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Certified LabVIEW Developer (CLD) – Preferred
• INCOSE ASEP or CSEP – Advantageous
• IPC/WHMA A 620 (Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies) – Advantageous
• AS9100D or ISO 9001 Quality System Awareness – Preferred
