Bayut.com in Dubai is seeking a Senior Software Engineer I - Backend to drive backend development across our product stream. You will collaborate with back-end engineers, QA, design, and leadership to ensure scalable, reliable systems that support millions of users.

The role emphasizes architecture, API design, test coverage, and hands-on coding while mentoring peers and shaping technical direction within the team.

Responsibilities

• Gather an up-to-date, in-depth understanding of the codebase and tech stack within weeks.
• Lead planning sessions around new features; deliver roll-out/roll-back strategies for releases.
• Research and apply industry trends as part of daily work.
• Create unit tests in line with established standards to cover assigned work.
• Write and maintain exemplary code following coding practices.
• Contribute to post-release maintenance issues.
• Build complex problems and deliver practical, high-impact solutions.
• Pioneer reliability and efficiency of current code base and platforms.
• Impact the direction and scope of the technical vision within your stream.
• Mentor peers in a peer-programming environment and guide tasks of any scale.
• Review major pull requests; define programming standards and provide feedback.
• Design and deliver multiple REST-based APIs; exposure to SOA.
• Push back on incomplete requirements when necessary.
• Handle the full software development life cycle end-to-end.
• Lead product planning meetings and architect solutions within your stream.
• Liaise with backend engineers, QA, design, and Tech Team Lead.
• Share innovations with other tech teams in your stream.

As a Senior Software Engineer I - Backend, you will liaise with the other backend engineers within your product stream, the QA team, the design team and your Tech Team Leads.

As a senior member of the team, you will be responsible for advancing our development stack and ensuring scale as we grow to millions of monthly active users across many countries.

In this role, you will:

• Hit the ground running - Gather an up-to-date, in-depth understanding of the dubizzle codebase and technology stack within weeks.
• Lead planning sessions around new product features and deliver detailed roll-out/roll-back strategies for releases.

• Actively contribute to post-release maintenance issues.

• Pioneer reliability and efficiency of our current code base, platforms and/or core systems.
• Impact on the direction and scope of dubizzle’s technical vision within your stream.
• Work in a mentoring capacity within a peer-programming environment and guide tasks, irrespective of complexity or scale.
• Code-review all major pull requests, define programming standards, and provide constructive feedback.
• Design and delivery of multiple REST-based APIs and previous exposure to Service Oriented Architecture.
• Capacity to push back requirements when incomplete.
• Handle the entire software development life cycle end-to-end.
• Lead product planning meetings and architect solutions within your stream.
• Liaise with the other back-end engineers within your product stream, the QA team, the design team and your Tech Team Lead.
