Job Overview

Wood is currently looking for a Senior Project Engineer to join its UAE business unit to support one of our projects in Iraq. The role is Sharjah based on a 5/2 work schedule.

Our Clients and Projects

Wood has been awarded a general engineering contract to support an International Client operator to deliver a portfolio of onshore capital projects by provision of engineering and project management services (including EPC contract management), as well as Supply Chain, Construction and Commissioning support from Wood Iraq and UAE offices. Projects include both Greenfield and Brownfield modification projects and integrating low‑carbon solutions to support our client’s energy transition and emissions reduction goals.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities
  • Manage engineering projects with multidisciplinary interface, 3rd party interfaces, and client liaison
  • Lead the project to ensure successful project delivery, coordinating with discipline engineers, supporting departments, and external stakeholders
  • Report to the Project Manager / Project Lead on day‑to‑day activities
  • Ensure compliance with Wood's Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality (HSEQ) policies and procedures
  • Develop and manage project plans, schedules, and budgets to ensure timely completion and meet client expectations
  • Coordinate with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and other third parties to ensure successful project delivery
  • Holds and minutes weekly progress meetings with discipline engineers, ensuring that ownership is assigned, and actions are driven to closure in a timely manner
  • Manage project risks, issues, and changes to ensure minimal impact on project schedule and budget
  • Ensure effective communication and collaboration among project stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain project documentation, reports, and records
  • Establishing WBS Structure and alignment of proposals & CTR development with an emphasis on scope development
  • Project delivery to agreed schedule dates
  • Preparation of Weekly Project Dashboards
  • To drive interface management, liaising with the Client’s Engineering, Operations and Maintenance staff as required to ensure a consistent approach to project completion
  • Daily Relationship Management and interface with client and other stakeholders

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Degree qualification in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the oil and gas industries with experience in EPC projects
  • Proven experience in managing engineering projects with multidisciplinary interface, 3rd party interfaces, and client liaison
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and projects
  • Experience working in multicultural and dynamic environments
  • Experience with project cost control and planning systems
  • Familiarity with working on projects in Iraq (Basra region in particular) and/or GCC is preferable
  • Previous experience in upstream oil and gas (Brownfield and Greenfield)
  • Good Oral and Communication skills
  • Must be able to supervise and delegate
  • Must have good interpersonal skills / team player
