The role
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior/Principal Technical Safety Engineer to join our Iraq Operations Business. This role is full‑time residential based in Sharjah, UAE.
Our Clients and Projects
Wood has been awarded a general engineering contract to support an International Client operator to deliver a portfolio of onshore capital projects by provision of engineering and project management services (including EPC contract management), as well as Supply Chain, Construction and Commissioning support from Wood Iraq and UAE offices.
Projects include both Greenfield and Brownfield modification projects and integrating low‑carbon solutions to support our client’s energy transition and emissions reduction goals.

Key Objectives
- Contributing to technical delivery of engineering excellence through:
- Executing assigned scopes of work
- Providing discipline expertise to the business
- Supporting and supervising task delegation to team
- Using technical knowledge to produce engineering deliverables, including complex problems and a high level of autonomy in design recommendations
- Managing complex projects and making technical decisions within a multi‑disciplinary scope
Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities
Executing Assigned Scopes of Work
- Participate as a team member in a specific phase of a broad engineering assignment
- Direct preparation of documentation for assigned projects
- Ensure successful completion within budgeted time and cost constraints
- Participate in defining engineering approaches and in planning and scheduling work
- Evaluate problems and establish performance specifications for components, equipment, systems, processes
- Check engineering calculations and drawings in accordance with industry codes and standards
- Assist with the development of less‑senior technical professionals
- Adhere to discipline‑specific procedures and provide improvement feedback
- Participate in audits and incident investigations
- Perform complex engineering tasks related to specific units of major projects
- Attend site visits, project review meetings, design reviews and other workshops as required
- Organise and actively participate in design reviews
Providing Discipline Expertise
- Solve problems with new approaches, exercising professional judgement in strategic options
- Modify established guidelines and devise new approaches when needed
- Act as a technical leader or significant contributor to major complex projects
- Develop innovative solutions and anticipate potential problems
- Use creativity, judgement and experience to formulate results based on engineering standards
- Apply advanced laws, principles and industry knowledge for design improvement
- Provide technical input and support to proposals
Supporting and Supervising Task Delegation to Team
- Supervise a small work group or provide guidance to technical professionals
- Assist in managerial tasks such as assigning tasks, planning, budgeting, and developing less‑experienced technical staff
- Discuss priorities with other senior engineers and coordinate engineering activities
- Approve work schedules and recommend additional resources as needed
- Manage one or more small projects, responsible for cost, schedule, resources, and risk
- Provide HSSE leadership and ensure compliance with safety requirements
Working Relationships
Internal
- Develop collaborative relationships across projects, offices and functions
- Engage with inter‑discipline community and promote knowledge sharing
- Persuade stakeholders to adopt new criteria or methods
- Seek managerial support for major projects

Expected
- B.Sc. or equivalent degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited university.
- Minimum 10+ years relevant experience in major brown‑field oil & gas projects, with at least 5 years in a similar position.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Specific experience in oil and gas projects across their lifecycle in the GCC region (preferred).
- Pre‑FEED and FEED experience required.
- Detailed engineering experience preferred.
