Job summary

Abu Dhabi BioBank, part of M42's Integrated Health Solutions platform in Abu Dhabi, seeks a Senior Medical Laboratory Technologist to lead cord blood processing and ensure regulatory compliance. You will handle safe, quality-controlled preparation of cord blood products, supervise staff, and collaborate with collection centers and testing labs to maintain high standards.

The role requires a strong background in hematology, cellular therapy, cryopreservation, and proficiency with HLA typing (NGS)

Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years of relevant experience with a degree, or 10 years of relevant experience without a degree.
• Experience in cord blood banking, cellular therapy processing and cryopreservation.
• Experience with HLA typing (NGS) and Flow Cytometry for CD34 enumeration.
• Strong knowledge of laboratory quality systems, safety standards and regulatory requirements.
• Ability to supervise, train and support laboratory teams.
• Fluency in English and Arabic; proficient in MS Office and lab documentation systems.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety, quality and integrity of cord blood products and laboratory procedures.
• Receive, inspect and document incoming cord blood units and maternal samples.
• Coordinate with cord blood collection centers regarding shipping, transport and documentation.
• Perform cord blood processing including volume reduction, cryopreservation preparation and long-term storage.
• Prepare aliquots from cord blood units for quality control, testing and storage.
• Prepare maternal blood samples for testing, storage and shipment to labs.
• Ensure accurate labeling, testing, processing, storage and final packaging of all products.
• Administer, file and follow up on laboratory test results with testing laboratories.
• Perform routine equipment calibration and temperature monitoring; report deviations.
• Maintain daily laboratory records and quality control activities.

The Senior Medical Laboratory Technologist is responsible for the safe handling, processing, documentation, storage, and manufacturing of cord blood products in line with established policies, procedures, and regulatory standards. The role supports high-quality laboratory operations, ensures donor and product safety, and contributes to training, quality control, and continuous improvement initiatives. This position works closely with cord blood collection centers, testing laboratories, registries, and internal clinical and laboratory teams.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the safety, quality, and integrity of cord blood products and laboratory procedures.
• Receive, inspect, and administer incoming cord blood units and maternal blood samples, ensuring accurate documentation and compliance.
• Coordinate with cord blood collection centers regarding shipping, transport, delivery, and associated documentation.
• Perform cord blood processing using current techniques and standards, including volume reduction, cryopreservation preparation, controlled-rate freezing, and long-term storage.
• Collect and prepare aliquots from cord blood units for quality control, testing, and storage.
• Prepare maternal blood samples for testing, storage, and shipment to relevant laboratories.
• Ensure accurate labeling, testing, processing, storage, and final packaging of all products.
• Administer, file, and follow up on laboratory test results, liaising with testing laboratories to resolve incomplete results.
• Perform routine equipment calibration, maintenance, and temperature monitoring, reporting deviations as required.
• Conduct quality control activities, specimen analysis, and maintain accurate daily laboratory records.
• Identify abnormal or critical test results and follow escalation and reporting procedures.
• Support training, supervision, and competency assessment of laboratory personnel.
• Assist in the development, validation, and implementation of new laboratory procedures and techniques.
• Maintain compliance with applicable cellular therapy, cord blood banking regulations, and standards (AABB, FACT, FDA, NMDP).
• Complete a minimum of 10 hours of continuing education annually in relevant disciplines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a related field with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or 10 years of relevant experience without a degree.
• Graduate of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) program with DOH licensure or eligibility(Hematology, Blood Transfusion, or Immunology).
• Proven experience in cord blood banking, cellular therapy processing, and cryopreservation.
• Hands-on experience with HLA typing (NGS) and Flow Cytometry for CD34 enumeration.
• Strong knowledge of laboratory quality systems, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Ability to supervise, train, and support laboratory teams.
• Strong communication skills with fluency in English and Arabic.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and laboratory documentation systems.
• Demonstrated adaptability, analytical thinking, and attention to detail.
