Job Purpose
The essential goal of our Emergency Response Team is to provide a sustainable service in the work place of Shams employees at the Shams 1 Plant by protecting life, property and environment through fire prevention, fire safety education and emergency response with well‑maintained equipment and highly trained, dedicated personnel.
Reporting to the HSSEQ Manager, you will be part of the Loss Prevention Function team and support plant operational goals and objectives as per Shams policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of firefighters / emergency responders during daily routines and in case of emergency (including professionals and voluntary helpers).
- Participate in the HSE processes of the O&M.
- Support the preventive/predictive maintenance and adjustments for plant firefighting equipment and/or systems defined under the plant maintenance plan.
- Ensure that all work is carried out, completed safely, cost‑effectively and on time.

During Plant Operational Phase
- Enforce TASEOM HSSE and Quality policies and procedures, ensuring all HSE measures are strictly considered during maintenance activities to avoid incidents or non‑conformities.
- Act as fire‑fighting / emergency responder team leader during emergencies.
- Act in place of HSSEQ supervisor after regular office hours.
- Support the development of emergency response plans and procedures.
- Respond to fire, hydrocarbon and toxic gas release, rescue and fire loss control, preventing and minimizing loss of life and property damage.
- Carry out testing, inspection and general maintenance activities associated with fire and life support equipment.
- Involved in permit‑to‑work process and raise service requests in CMMS when required.
- Ensure HSE processes are performed, especially out of working hours.
- Lead a crew of firefighters during firefighting, oil and gas release control measures, rescue and medical emergencies, and participate in specialist stand‑by duties.
- Participate in routine maintenance and testing of fire main hydrants, isolation valves, fire hose, breathing apparatus, life support and resuscitation equipment.
- Record PPE issuance and maintain routine inventory of PPE in the fire brigade.
- Provide induction to visitors, contractors and staff.
Additional Duties
- Check vehicles and equipment entering the plant; provide stickers based on permitted access routes.
- Execute daily routine activities by assigning team members for inspections, testing, standby, housekeeping and drills.
- Maintain accurate records, prepare reports and compose correspondence related to the work.
- Ensure tools and equipment are adequate and used according to manufacturer's recommendations and company guidelines.
- Implement contingency plans in case of failure or unavailability of any part of the plant fire protection system.
- Participate in testing and maintenance of fire‑fighting vehicles and major storage tank firefighting equipment.
- Participate in daily practical and theoretical training to maintain required professional skills.
- Participate in troubleshooting activities with Operations and Maintenance colleagues to determine causes of failure and propose remedies.
- Report to HSSEQ Manager all jobs carried out and record them properly in CMMS.
- Participate in UAE Nationals development programme.
- Participate in plant scheduled shutdowns and turnarounds.
- In the event of an emergency, participate in the emergency response team and provide logistic support as needed; participate in drills and receive first aid and firefighting techniques training if required.
Required Qualifications
- High School Technical Diploma.
- Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education achieving comparable knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Very good physical fitness level (as per ADEHSMS COP 5.0 for Emergency Responders).
- Fire Officer Level 1 certificate (according to NFPA 1021) or equivalent competency.
- Completion of basic firefighters training program, preferably with specialist equipment training.
- Knowledge of Emergency Response Management & Fire Ground Command procedures.
- A valid UAE heavy vehicle driving licence.
Experience
- At least 3 years’ experience in firefighting and rescue, basic fire prevention/protection, and use of life support equipment in large power generation or continuous process plants.
- Hands‑on experience in the use, inspection, maintenance and repair of firefighting equipment and detection systems.
Skills
- Highly proactive and self‑motivated.
- Team leading skill; team player; good interpersonal skills.
- Good command of oral and written English; General IELTS Level 4; Arabic is an advantage.
