Job summary

WSP in the Middle East is seeking a Senior Consultant – Fire & Life Safety to join our team in the UAE. You will provide Fire & Life Safety consultancy services for a wide range of complex and large-scale projects across the region.

You will be responsible for developing fire and life safety strategies, undertaking technical reviews, and engaging with clients, authorities, and project stakeholders to ensure compliance with applicable local and international codes and standards, including IBC,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Fire Safety Engineering, Fire Engineering, or closely related discipline.
• Pursuing professional license and/or certifications in fire protection (PE, CEng, CFPS or equivalent) are highly desirable.
• 8-12 years of experience in fire life safety/protection engineering consulting.
• Knowledge of UAE building codes, international codes, and standards (SBC, IBC, NFPA, BS, and others).
• Experience in fire protection design, fire detection and alarm systems, smoke control systems, risk assessments, and compliance audits.
• Effective communication and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Design Oversight: provide technical input on fire and life safety systems such as detection, suppression, smoke control, and passive fire protection; prepare design submissions and strategy reports.
• Compliance & Inspection: verify designs and installations meet Saudi and international fire codes; assist with audits and site inspections.
• Risk Management: support fire risk assessments and mitigation strategy development for complex projects.
• Testing & Commissioning: assist with testing and commissioning of fire and life safety systems to meet requirements.
• Stakeholder Collaboration: coordinate with architects, contractors, clients, and authorities for smooth delivery.
• Team Development: mentor junior engineers and promote knowledge sharing and CPD activities.
• Business Development: contribute to bid submissions and client meetings, represent the firm at events.
• Thought Leadership: engage in conferences, publications, and professional forums.

In this role, you will provide Fire & Life Safety consultancy services for a wide range of complex and large-scale projects across the region. You will be responsible for developing fire and life safety strategies, undertaking technical reviews, and engaging with clients, authorities, and project stakeholders to ensure compliance with applicable local and international codes and standards, including IBC, NFPA, BS, UAE Fire & Life Safety Code, SBC and other relevant regulations.

• Design Oversight: Assist in providing technical input and consultation on fire and life safety systems, including fire detection and alarm systems, water-based suppression systems, clean agent extinguishing systems, smoke control systems, and passive fire protection systems for complex projects. Prepare and support design submissions, calculations, and Fire & Life Safety Strategy reports in coordination with senior engineers. Maintain high standards of quality, accuracy, and professional communication across all deliverables.

• Compliance & Inspection: Support verification that designs and installations comply with applicable Saudi and international fire and life safety codes and standards. Assist with audits, site inspections, and compliance reviews.

• Risk Management: Support fire risk assessments and hazard analyses, and contribute to the development of mitigation strategies for complex and high-profile projects.

• Testing & Commissioning: Assist with integrated testing and commissioning of fire and life safety systems to ensure compliance with regulatory, client, and design requirements.

• Stakeholder Collaboration: Coordinate with architects, contractors, clients, and relevant government authorities to support smooth project delivery and effective stakeholder engagement.

• Team Development: Mentor and guide junior and graduate consultants. Promote knowledge sharing, innovation, and best practice in fire safety engineering. Participate in training programmes, technical workshops, and continuous professional development activities.

• Business Development: Contribute to bid submissions and proposals, attend client meetings, and support the representation of WSP at industry and client events.

• Thought Leadership: Support the profile of WSP’s Fire & Life Safety team through involvement in conferences, technical publications, and professional forums.
