Job summary

Consertus seeks a Senior Resident Engineer to advise and assist on-site supervision of construction activities in Sharjah, ensuring quality assurance and control from start to completion. The role involves coordinating with owners, reviewing submittals, monitoring schedules, and maintaining safety on site.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering with 10–12 years’ experience, 4+ years in a similar role, and professional membership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• 10–12 years overall with 4+ years in a similar role.
• Society of Engineers certification/membership.
• Experience with consultancy or contracting firms.
• Strong knowledge of construction methods, finishes, materials, and standards.
• Proficiency in reviewing drawings, specifications, submittals, and technical documents.
• Excellent coordination, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD; knowledge of Revit is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Supervise site activities in accordance with Laceco guidelines and the Resident Engineer's directions.
• Review contractor submittals and coordinate with owner/client representatives.
• Monitor construction schedules and ensure timely progress.
• Ensure materials comply with ministerial requirements and contract documents.
• Prepare weekly and monthly construction progress reports and safety observations.
• Attend meetings with clients and stakeholders as required.
• Maintain on-site quality control and proper storage of materials.

About this role

To advice and assist the Resident Engineer (R.E.) in supervising on site construction activities to ensure quality assurance and quality control from start to completion of the construction project

Key Responsibilities

OPERATIONAL

• Conduct supervision responsibilities in adherence to guidelines as indicated in the Laceco Supervision Manual; ensure that supervision guidelines are being adhered to by site Civil Engineers at all times
• Make recommendations to the Resident Engineer regarding the selection and approval of sub-contractors in coordination with and through consultations with owner/client representatives
• Notify the Resident Engineer of any discrepancies identified against contract documents in order for corrective action to be taken
• Assist in resolving any issues raised by contractors (e.g. requirements for time extensions, change order requests, variations etc.); make recommendations to the Resident Engineer as appropriate
• Review related items within the Contractor’s Construction Schedule (CCS) (e.g. shop drawing submittal log, procurement schedule, and material submittal log etc.) prior to its approval by the Resident Engineer
• Monitor contractor activities and ensure contractors have submitted work according to schedule
• Inspect related procured construction materials delivered to the site, to ensure compliance against ministerial requirements and specifications/contract documents/approvals
• Ensure that all materials delivered on site are being adequately stored and protected as per manufacturer’s recommendations in order to avoid damage of materials
• Prepare weekly and monthly construction progress reports
• Ensure the maintaining of onsite quality control (e.g. through thorough testing of materials and verifying of materials, adequate storage of materials, contractor’s submittal of written undertakings, warranty and protection of installed systems etc.)
• Contribute to managing the health and safety of all on-site personnel; report any observed safety violations to the Resident Engineer and/or Safety Inspector (if available)
• Attend meetings (e.g. progress meetings, coordination and specially called meetings with clients etc.) as and when required.
• Ensure that the contractors submittals to local ministries are carried out in a timely manner as specified in contract documents
• Approve the As-built drawings submitted by the contractor and all related information after construction completion
• Review and recommend any changes deemed necessary of drawings
• Remain abreast on changes in local ministerial requirements regarding structural systems
• Inspect the completed work, arrange for rectification, evaluate at commissioning, performance certification and warranty assessment

PEOPLE MANAGEMENT

• Ensure all project support staff have assigned tasks and understand their project role
• Provide technical guidance and on-the-job training to employees
• Ensure health and safety of architects/engineers working on site

Qualifications/Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
• 10 to 12 years with 4+ years of experience in a similar role
• Certification/Membership of Society of Engineers
• Previous experience working with a consultancy or contracting company
• Strong knowledge of construction methods, architectural finishes, materials, and applicable building standards
• Proficiency in reviewing drawings, specifications, material submittals, and technical documents
• Excellent coordination, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office; knowledge of Revit is an advantage
