Qualifications

Wood is currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Civil & Structural Designer for one of our clients in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates as part of our Civil Engineering team within Oil, Gas & New Energies business. Due to the nature of the projects and client expectation, the position will be based full time at our office in Abu Dhabi Engineering Center team. THE ROLE

The Senior Civil & Structural Designer is responsible for delivering high-quality civil and structural design and drafting deliverables for EPCM projects, from concept through detailed design and construction support. The role requires strong technical expertise, coordination with multidisciplinary teams, and compliance with applicable codes, standards, and client specifications.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design & Drafting
    • Prepare and check civil and structural design drawings including:
      • Site layouts, grading, drainage, and earthworks
      • Foundations (shallow, deep, equipment foundations)
      • Concrete and steel structures
      • Pipe racks, platforms, shelters, and buildings
    • Develop 3D models and 2D drawings using industry-standard tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, Tekla, PDMS, SP3D, Revit as applicable).
    • Produce design deliverables across EPCM project phases:
      • Concept, FEED, detailed design, and construction support.
  • Technical Leadership
    • Interpret engineering calculations, specifications, and data sheets and translate them into accurate designs.
    • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior designers and drafters.
    • Perform checking and review of drawings and models for quality, constructability, and compliance.
  • Coordination & Interfaces
    • Coordinate with civil, structural, piping, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation disciplines.
    • Interface with vendors, subcontractors, and clients on design-related matters.
    • Incorporate vendor and third-party information into design deliverables.
  • EPCM & Project Support
    • Ensure designs comply with EPCM procedures, project standards, and HSE requirements.
    • Support constructability reviews, model reviews, and design workshops.
    • Assist with quantity take-offs, material lists, and cost estimates as required.
    • Provide construction support including:
      • Responding to RFIs
      • Issuing site instructions and design clarifications
      • Reviewing as‑built drawings
  • Quality, Safety & Compliance
    • Apply applicable international and local codes and standards (e.g., ACI, AISC, Eurocodes, BS, AS, IS).
    • Ensure compliance with project QA/QC processes.
    • Promote safe design principles and constructability best practices.
    • Experience working on international EPCM projects.
    • Familiarity with BIM execution plans and model-based workflows.
    • Previous site or construction support experience.
    • Knowledge of client standards (e.g., Shell, Aramco, ADNOC, Chevron, etc.).
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Diploma or Associate Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Bachelor's degree preferred).
  • 10-15 years of experience in civil and structural design within EPCM / EPC / consultancy environments.
  • Proven experience on industrial, oil & gas, power, infrastructure, or mining projects (as applicable).
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and at least one 3D modeling platform.
  • Solid understanding of:
    • Concrete and steel detailing
    • Foundations and earthworks
    • Industrial structures and buildings
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering calculations and specifications.
  • Strong coordination and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet project deadlines.
  • Leadership and mentoring capability.
