Job summary

Salt is seeking a Senior AI / Automation Engineer to embed AI safely into real enterprise workflows. This role focuses on production-grade ML systems rather than chatbots or RAG demos, requiring strong software engineering and experience with LLMs, agentic systems and enterprise automation.

You will own production LLM capabilities, build tool-calling agents, implement document extraction and retrieval patterns, and design guardrails, cost controls and human review mechanisms to ensure safe,

Qualifications

• Strong software engineering fundamentals.
• Production experience delivering LLM applications to real users.
• Experience building API/services for AI applications.
• Experience with RAG, embeddings and tool-calling.
• Asynchronous processing and state management.
• Testing, observability and production error handling.
• Understanding context windows, model economics and inference cost.
• Experience taking AI systems from prototype to production.

Responsibilities

• Build production LLM and agentic workflow capabilities.
• Develop tool-calling agents that interact with enterprise APIs.
• Implement document extraction, classification and reasoning.
• Build retrieval/context-management patterns for enterprise knowledge.
• Integrate AI services with deterministic workflow systems.
• Implement structured outputs, validation, confidence thresholds and human review mechanisms.
• Build automated evaluation and regression-testing pipelines.
• Design guardrails and policy controls.
• Implement model routing and inference-cost controls.
• Monitor latency, token consumption, quality and failure rates.
• Design fallback behavior when AI cannot safely complete a task.
• Determine when deterministic software is more appropriate than an LLM.
