Apt Resources is currently looking for a skilled Rough Diamond Evaluator to join our clients mining team in Angola. The successful candidate will specialize in assessing grading and valuing rough diamonds at the mining site ensuring adherence to industry standards and practices. This essential role directly contributes to the accurate reporting and effective management of diamond inventory.

Key Responsibilities:

Evaluation & Grading:

  • Conduct thorough examinations of rough diamonds using various gemological instruments.
  • Grade diamonds based on the 4Cs framework - Carat Color Clarity and Cut potential.

Valuation:

  • Determine the estimated market value of rough diamonds based on comprehensive market analysis and pricing data.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Maintain detailed records of diamond evaluations and grading results for daily reports.

Collaboration:

  • Work collaboratively with geologists mining engineers and security personnel to ensure the secure handling and transport of diamonds.

Requirements
  • Bachelors degree or certification in Gemology Geology Mining Engineering or a related field.
  • Professional training in diamond grading and evaluation from recognized institutions (e.g. GIA HRD).
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in rough diamond evaluation and sorting.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Kimberley Process and regulations governing diamond mining.
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail in grading and reporting.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced remote mining environment.
  • Excellent ethical standards and a strong commitment to confidentiality.
  • Fluency in Portuguese and/or English is preferred.
  • Experience working in African mining sites is an advantage.
