Job summary

Responsibilities

• Coordinate rolling stock design review activities with Client's engineering team.
• Review rolling stock designs for specs, safety, and regulations.
• Coordinate design reviews with suppliers and manufacturers.
• Liaise with Design & Build contractors for interface integration.
• Lead technical workshops and multidisciplinary coordination meetings.
• Manage rolling stock packages through manufacturing, testing, delivery, and commissioning.
• Chair progress meetings and monitor manufacturing progress against milestones.
• Oversee FAT/SAT procedures, QA/QC activities, and testing reports.
• Coordinate supervision activities in supplier facilities.
• Prepare technical reports, progress updates and risk assessments.

Your impact

Jacobs is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Rolling Stock Engineer to support the design review and construction supervision phases of rolling stock. The role will be responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of new and existing rolling stock fleets, including passenger trains, diesel locomotives, freight wagons, and maintenance-of-way equipment.

Key Responsibilities

Design Review Phase:

• Coordinate rolling stock design review activities with the Client's engineering team.
• Review and assess rolling stock designs for compliance with project specifications, operational requirements, safety standards, and applicable railway regulations.
• Coordinate design review activities with rolling stock suppliers and manufacturers.
• Liaise with Design & Build contractors to ensure effective integration of rolling stock requirements across project interfaces.
• Coordinate technical reviews with the Client, Operator, and Maintainer to achieve operational and maintenance objectives.
• Facilitate the development and management of interfaces between rolling stock systems and other project packages, including infrastructure, signaling, telecommunications, depots, and maintenance facilities.
• Support and coordinate rolling stock system assurance and safety assurance activities.
• Identify technical risks and support the development of mitigation measures during design development.
• Participate in technical workshops, design reviews, and multidisciplinary coordination meetings.

Construction Supervision Phase:

• Manage assigned rolling stock packages throughout manufacturing, testing, delivery, and commissioning stages.
• Chair progress meetings with suppliers, contractors, and stakeholders.
• Monitor manufacturing progress and delivery schedules to ensure compliance with project programmes and milestones.
• Conduct factory inspections, site inspections, and witness testing activities.
• Review and assess factory acceptance test (FAT) procedures, site acceptance test (SAT) procedures, and associated test reports.
• Monitor quality assurance and quality control activities undertaken by suppliers and contractors.
• Coordinate supervision activities undertaken by Jacobs engineering specialists in supplier manufacturing facilities.
• Monitor compliance with contractual requirements, technical specifications, and applicable standards.
• Support issue resolution and change management activities during manufacturing and delivery.
• Manage the rolling stock handover process, including documentation review, certification, and acceptance activities.
• Prepare technical reports, progress updates, and risk assessments for project stakeholders.

Here’s what you’ll need

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Railway Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 8-12 years of rolling stock experience within railway, metro, passenger, or freight rail projects.
• Proven experience in rolling stock design review, manufacturing oversight, testing, commissioning, or construction supervision.
• Experience working with rolling stock suppliers and manufacturers.
• Understanding of railway system integration and interface management.
• Knowledge of railway safety assurance and system assurance processes.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary international project teams.
• Willingness to travel internationally to manufacturing and testing facilities.
• Previous experience on major railway infrastructure projects in the Middle East or internationally.
• Experience in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and commissioning activities.
• Familiarity with asset management, maintenance strategies, and lifecycle requirements for rolling stock.
• Professional Engineering registration or chartered status is desirable.
