Job description

The post holder will always work within the scope of practice, putting the health, wellbeing and safety of their patient first as they assess, plan, implement and evaluate their needs.

Responsibilities
  • Be responsible for providing and coordinating patient care, educating patients and the public about various health conditions, and providing advice and emotional support to patients and their family members.
  • Assess and identify patients' needs and implement and monitor the patient's medical plan and treatment. They will work with a team of physicians and other health care specialists or allied health in various settings.
  • Perform systematic patient assessment, re‑assessment and collect pertinent data about the patient’s health or situation.
  • Understand and analyse the assessment information and data.
  • Determine actual and potential nursing diagnoses, problems, and issues.
  • Define the predicted and expected outcomes of the patient’s planned care.
  • Create and evaluate patient care plans with the interprofessional team, in collaboration with the patient and patient’s bystanders.
  • Record vital signs, recognise, address and elevate all abnormalities.
  • Maintain and update technical and clinical skills related to nursing practice.
  • Employ strategies to promote patients’ health and a safe environment.
  • Understand different diagnostic tests and laboratory examinations.
  • Perform essential life support as per regulatory requirements and scope such as, but not limited to, Basic Life Support.
  • Prepare patients for medical examination and treatment.
  • Administer medications and monitor patients for any side effects and reactions.
  • Administer treatments such as IV fluids or blood products and monitor patients for any reactions.
  • Provide wound care management.
  • Assist in medical procedures, invasive or non‑invasive as needed.
  • Facilitate the process of safe patient admission, transfer and discharge.
  • Be competent with all the mandatory and unit‑specific competencies supported and assigned on Elsevier platform to ensure adherence to evidence‑based practices.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in emergency procedures, equipment, and protocols relevant to the department.
  • Participate in ongoing programs and certification to support professional growth and maintain clinical competency.
  • Comply with unit scope of service.
  • Demonstrate understanding and utilisation of evidence‑based health care.
  • Perform nursing care for patients who visit the outpatient department in an environment that optimises patient safety and reduces the likelihood of health‑care errors.
  • Must have excellent observation skills, able to think critically and to make quick and effective decisions.
  • Able to perform procedure like (not limited to):
    • Neighbor strapping
    • Application of Master sling
    • Application of Collar and Cuff, plastofit applicator
    • Application of futuro‑splint, ankle brace, knee brace, etc.
    • Application of lumbar support belt, ankle support, etc.
  • Able to assist with procedure like (not limited to):
    • Intra‑articular injection
    • Application and removal of fibre glass cast
    • Application and removal of POP and Backslab
    • Aspiration of joints
    • MUA of small joints
    • Dressing
    • Suture removal
    • Clip removal
    • Cast removal
    • Strapping of small joints
  • Complete care and safety of patients in the assigned clinic.
  • Organization of assigned duties.
  • Accurately monitor and record patient’s condition.
  • Ensure investigation reports are available for consultation if applicable.
  • Perform assessment and reassessments on patient as per assessment policy.
  • Perform patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age.
  • Report any abnormality in patient’s condition immediately to the medical staff and elevate as and when required.
  • Preparation of patient for emergency surgeries.
  • Competent in all aspects of nursing care.
  • Document on patient record as per current standards and policies.
  • Assist physician with procedures and perform services requiring technical and manual skills.
  • Perform routine and advanced nursing procedures/skills.
  • Able to function efficiently in patient care within the assigned clinic and relieve other nursing units in the hospital if necessary.
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained in good working order, reporting any fault to Nurse Manager/Engineering.
Qualifications
  • Essential
    • Have an appropriate license to work as a registered nurse in the relevant regulatory health authority with all the qualifications and experience these mandates.
    • Manage their own professional re‑licensure.
    • Hold a valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support Provider card.
    • Be willing to work across departments and On Call when necessary.
    • Be able to communicate clearly and effectively in English (spoken and written).
  • Desirable
    • Evidenced ability to work as part of an inter‑professional team.
    • Organisational and administrative skills with which to use the electronic medical record platform for clinical documentation.
    • Be able to communicate effectively in Arabic.
