Job summary

GEMS Education is seeking a PYP Coordinator in Dubai to lead curriculum planning, assess progress, and support student development in a dynamic international school environment.

You will deliver engaging lessons, manage records, and uphold school policies while collaborating with staff to enhance teaching standards and student outcomes.

Qualifications

• A certified professional teaching qualification at degree level, such as B.Ed, PGCE, PGDE or equivalent in Primary/Elementary.
• A minimum of 3 years of solid and demonstrable experience teaching Primary, ideally within a PYP Curriculum School.
• Experience within a similar role is preferred but not necessary.
• The experience, personality and educational philosophy to drive further, the education agenda at this flagship GEMS school with an international student body.
• The desire to provide outstanding teaching and learning.
• Aspiration to work in a world class school with real prospects for enhancing their career.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver quality lessons to motivate students and adapt to different learning styles.
• Establish and maintain records of curriculum, year plans, attendance, and resources.
• Ensure GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct are followed at all times.
• Teach students according to individual needs using appropriate strategies.
• Display competence in using media and technology in the classroom.
• Promote student progress and well‑being; provide guidance on educational matters.
• Communicate with parents and Ministry officials as appropriate.
• Participate in appraisal, CPD, and Performance Management processes.
• Collaborate with colleagues on materials, resources, and courses of study.
• Lead/co‑lead co-curricular and extra‑curricular programmes and share ideas.
• Monitor student behaviour and implement strategies to encourage self‑discipline.
• Foster cultural awareness and a love of learning.
• Assist in planning school events and functions and engage families.
• Maintain regular communication with parents about student progress.

Job Description includes but not limited to:

• Plan and deliver quality lessons to motivate students. Create and utilize appropriate materials and the classroom environment to cater for different learning styles.
• Show written evidence of planning and preparation on request. Establish and maintain records of curriculum and year plans, attendance, teaching resources, assessment plans
• Ensure the GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct are followed at all times.
• Teach students assigned according to their individual needs using appropriate teaching strategies that meet student needs and abilities e.g. late‑entering students, ESL, Low academic ability, gifted and talented etc.
• Display competence in using media and technology in the classroom.
• Promote the general progress and well‑being of students and provide guidance to students on educational matters.
• Communicate with persons outside the school where appropriate e.g. Ministry of Education officials.
• Participate in appraisal and Performance Management procedures and Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
• Work alongside colleagues on the preparation and development of teaching materials, resources, courses of study and pastoral arrangements.
• Participate in, and lead where appropriate, the co‑curricular and extra‑curricular programmes in the school. Promote good working relationships through active leadership and sharing of ideas, materials and experiences.
• Monitor and supervise safe and appropriate student behaviour. Plan and implement strategies to encourage self‑discipline and manage disruptive behaviour.
• Model and encourage cultural awareness and understanding and promote a love of learning.
• Assist in the planning and organising of school events and functions (e.g. inter‑house competitions, concerts, school plays, prize days etc.).
• Communicate and meet with parents regularly promoting the GEMS philosophy and core values; keep parents regularly informed of students’ progress while respecting the confidentiality of student‑related information.

Skills

The ideal candidate will have:

• A certified professional teaching qualification at degree level, such as B.Ed, PGCE, PGDE or equivalent in Primary/Elementary specialism
• A minimum of 3 years of solid and demonstrable experience teaching Primary, ideally within a PYP Curriculum School, however this is not mandatory
• Experience within a similar role is preferred but not necessary
