The Provost Fellowship Programme

Edinburgh Business School (EBS) Dubai is continuing to expand as part of our commitment to developing early career academics. We are looking for our next Provost Fellow. The fellowship is a two-year programme designed to support development in learning, teaching and research. The Fellow will join the Accounting, Economics & Finance Department and work collaboratively as part of the academic teams. The programme is designed for recent PhD graduates (or those in the final stages of viva preparation) who do not have significant teaching experience and are aspiring for an academic career. The Fellow will be mentored by experienced academics and will have an individual development plan.

About us

Edinburgh Business School (EBS) Dubai is the largest of five Schools in Dubai. We have staff across three campuses and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate taught and research degrees across a wide range of disciplines. We are a global University and this is reflected in the management of programmes and courses. Student numbers on our Dubai Campus continue to grow, providing opportunities to attract talent to grow our academic capacity.

What we are looking for

We are looking for highly motivated and qualified candidates as part of our exciting new academic fellowships programme. Applicants must have a doctoral qualification in Accounting or Finance, and these roles are anticipated to be most useful to those without significant teaching experience. The posts will allow you to develop your teaching and research portfolio for a career in higher education.

Our programme provides a structured annual plan where you will be supported to enhance skills across teaching and research. In return you will provide our students with an excellent learning experience, collaborate with colleagues, and drive forward research.

What you will be doing

There are two broad areas which are broken down in more detail later in this document:

  • You will undertake teaching of our undergraduate students; for candidates who have not taught before this will initially take the form of team teaching with an experienced academic colleague.
  • You will work on your research in line with an agreed research plan that you will agree with your mentor.
What support will you receive

In support of teaching-related activities our support includes workshops covering areas such as:

  • Teaching skills
  • Using technology in the workplace
  • Understanding different levels of study
  • Engaging students in the classroom
  • How to assess student work
  • Peer review of teaching and opportunity to observe colleagues

For research activities support includes:

  • Allocation to a research mentor to support developing a publication plan
  • Writing for publication
  • Applying for research funding
  • Invitations to seminars/workshops and opportunities to deliver your own work
  • Networking
  • You can apply on an annual basis for funding to attend an international conference where you have been accepted to deliver a peer-reviewed paper
Key duties and responsibilities
  • Undertake teaching and assessment duties
  • Contribute to the content design and delivery of the curriculum of our courses
  • Deliver classes online to students
  • Support accreditation processes
  • Provide pastoral support, recognising when to refer a student for further support
  • Keep up to date with the latest developments in research
  • Build and conduct research in one or more of the School’s research areas
  • Identify and apply for a research grant
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in the UK at other campuses and with external networks
  • Support Open Days and other student recruitment events
  • Undertake continuous professional development (CPD) and participate in staff development activities

Education & Qualifications

Essential

Desirable

  • Member of an appropriate professional body
  • Some experience of delivering teaching to undergraduate students
  • Associate member of the HEA
  • Experience of maintaining and developing new links with industry
