Job summary

Wood in Abu Dhabi seeks a Lead Contracts Engineer to head contracting and procurement for offshore oil & gas or renewables projects. You will drive contractual strategies, tendering, evaluation, negotiation, and post-award management within a PMC framework according to ADNOC standards.

The role requires governance compliance, risk management, and strong leadership to mentor junior staff while coordinating across engineering, procurement, construction, and legal teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Law, Business, or related field.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in contract engineering or contract management, preferably offshore oil & gas.
  • Strong understanding of contracting strategies (EPC, EPIC, T&I, LSTK), FIDIC, LOGIC, or other international contract forms.
  • Experience in PMC roles on major offshore projects is highly desirable.
  • Proven negotiation, claims management, and risk management skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.

Job description

Lead Contracts Engineer – responsible for leading all contracting and procurement activities within a PMC organization for offshore oil & gas or renewable energy projects. The role ensures contractual strategies, tendering, evaluation, negotiation, award, and post‑award contract management are executed in compliance with project requirements, company policies, and international best practices.

Job Objective

The Lead Contracts Engineer will manage all contract management and administration activities within the PMC team for ADNOC projects, ensuring compliance with project requirements, company policies, and ADNOC standards.

Responsibilities
  • Develop project‑specific Contracting & Procurement (C&P) strategies for offshore projects (FEED, EPC, T&I, fabrication, installation, commissioning).
  • Advise on contract models (lump‑sum, reimbursable, hybrid) and risk allocation.
  • Prepare and maintain contract plans, schedules, and procurement status reports.
  • Prepare RFP, ITT, and pre‑qualification documents.
  • Lead tender clarification meetings, pre‑bid meetings, and site visits.
  • Coordinate technical and commercial evaluations with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Lead negotiations on contractual, commercial, and claims‑related topics.
  • Finalize contract terms and conditions with legal and project leadership.
  • Prepare award recommendations and obtain internal approvals.
  • Support drafting of contract amendments, change orders, and variation requests.
  • Monitor contractor performance, deliverables, and compliance.
  • Lead change management including variations, claims, back‑charges, and disputes.
  • Ensure robust contract administration practices: correspondence, logs, payment certs, and KPIs.
  • Support cost control and schedule teams to align with contract obligations.
  • Identify and mitigate contractual and commercial risks across the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure compliance with governance, contractual frameworks, and insurance requirements.
  • Manage contractual interfaces between multiple offshore packages.
  • Supervise and mentor junior contract engineers.
  • Act as the primary contractual focal point for the client and offshore contractors.
  • Support alignment between engineering, procurement, construction, and legal teams.
