Job summary

10a Labs is seeking a backend/infrastructure engineer to design sandboxed evaluation environments for AI models and to build scalable backend services for repeatable evaluations.

You will develop agent scaffolding and evaluation harnesses, orchestrate isolated environments with Docker, Kubernetes or VMs, and implement secure networking, secrets handling, and automation for researchers and engineers.

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years of professional software engineering experience in backend, infra, or distributed systems.
• Strong Python programming skills.
• Experience designing and operating backend services or APIs.
• Hands‑on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or virtual machines.
• Experience working with AWS, GCP, or similar cloud infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of Linux systems, networking, authentication, and infrastructure security.
• Experience with infrastructure‑as‑code tools such as Terraform.
• Strong debugging skills across application and infrastructure layers.

Responsibilities

• Design and build sandboxed evaluation environments for AI models to safely execute code and use tools.
• Build backend services and infrastructure supporting large-scale, repeatable AI and agentic evaluations.
• Develop agent scaffolding and evaluation harnesses including tool-use loops and state management.
• Build systems for provisioning and orchestrating isolated environments using Docker, Kubernetes, or VMs.
• Design secure approaches to networking, permissions, secrets, and resource isolation.
• Develop APIs, internal tools, and automation for researchers and engineers.
• Improve reliability through logging, observability, snapshotting, and automated testing.
• Partner with analysts and red teamers to translate evaluation ideas into technical systems.
