Job description

The newly established Center for Behavioral Institutional Design (C-BID), New York University Abu Dhabi, is inviting applications for a Research Assistant interested in exploring the origins of human behavioral diversity, developing empirically-informed models of human behavior, and designing innovative institutions and policies for promoting social welfare.

This position is designed for candidates with a background in Economics, but is also suitable for candidates from disciplines such as Social and Behavioral Sciences, Mathematics, and Computer Science. The ideal candidate will have experience in experimental, empirical, or theoretical methods, or a combination thereof. Excellent communication skills in English, the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams, and scientific creativity are essential.

The applicant will work in a multidisciplinary environment with NYUAD faculty, post-docs, graduate and undergraduate students, and a network of international collaborators. C-BID aims to construct empirically-validated models of human behavior to inform policy and institutional design, improving social welfare. The center brings together faculty from across the NYU Global Network, including social sciences, behavioral sciences, and policy experts, as well as policymakers, to establish a leading hub for behavioral social science and public policy. The successful applicant will collaborate closely with the C-BID team: Olivier Bochet, Ernesto Reuben, Nikos Nikiforakis, and John Wooders.

The Center is organized into three research clusters:

  1. Cluster 1: Explores social, neurobiological, and institutional underpinnings of preferences, expectations, and behavior.
  2. Cluster 2: Uses insights from Cluster 1 to design institutions, policies, markets, and rules that enhance social and economic welfare, emphasizing human diversity in institutional design.
  3. Cluster 3: Applies insights from the first two clusters to design smart, welfare-enhancing institutions and policies tailored to specific socio-economic contexts, expanding collaborations with local public and private partners.

UAE nationals are encouraged to apply. Applicants are encouraged to discuss their research interests with the center leadership to tailor their duties and projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Depending on the project, responsibilities may include data collection, interpretation, analysis, and the development and testing of new tools and methods.

Essential Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Economics or related fields, including Social and Behavioral Sciences, Mathematics, Physics, or Computer Science.

Preferred experience:

  • Previous research experience in behavioral social science is desirable.

Applicants should submit:
