Job summary

NMC GROUP SERVICES. is looking for an Occupational Therapist to join their rehabilitation team in Abu Dhabi. The role involves collaborating with healthcare professionals, providing therapy to clients, and ensuring adherence to safety and compliance regulations.

The ideal candidate will have a graduate degree in Occupational Therapy, a current HAAD license, and at least two years of experience. Job description

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake duties in accordance with the philosophy, business practices and policies of NMCRH‑KC, and practice within the standards and ethics of the Occupational Therapy profession.
  • Work as a professional member of a multi‑disciplinary rehabilitation team and actively participate in team meetings.
  • Effectively communicate with staff members, health professionals, clients and families regarding the provision of services.
  • Contribute to and participate in education programs for residents, relatives, and staff of NMCRH‑KC.
  • Participate in continuing education and courses to update Occupational Therapy techniques and information.
  • Ensure all adverse clinical events are recorded and reported.
  • Assist in the ongoing maintenance of a safe workplace through involvement in the implementation of safe systems of work; identify and report hazards in the workplace.
  • Ensure that all therapists within the team use the analysis of assessment and risk data to determine therapy aims and treatment goals, formulate intervention plans to reduce the impact of disability, and promote independence in collaboration with the client, caregivers, other team members and relevant agencies.
  • Identify and select with caregivers the most appropriate intervention that balances the complexity of risk, safety, client care choice, independence, areas of conflict, eligibility for service and cost‑effectiveness.
  • Use advanced experience and knowledge to assess the client’s needs for specific equipment and adaptations to allow them to improve or maintain independence.
  • Support staff to prepare and present the case to the Equipment and Adaptations Panel; be responsible for installation and ensure risk assessments and training are carried out to ensure client and caregivers’ safety.
  • Use highly advanced clinical reasoning and critical thinking to analyse assessments made by others for equipment and adaptations.
  • Act as an approved signatory on a one‑to‑one basis and as Chair of the Equipment and Adaptation panel.
  • Demonstrate highly specialised therapeutic moving and handling skills in the assessment and treatment of clients; give specialist advice to staff, clients, caregivers and families on correct manual handling techniques; undertake highly specialised manual handling risk assessments.
  • Establish a therapeutic relationship with clients and caregivers to encourage participation; manage barriers to communication (e.g., different languages) using advanced interpersonal skills, reasoning, negotiation and motivational tactics.
  • Provide emotional support to clients and families in coping with the impact of a new ongoing diagnosis.
  • Investigate incident reports and ensure all action plans are implemented; disseminate and act on reports.
  • Prioritise and manage the clinical and non‑clinical responsibilities of the post on a daily basis; assist junior staff in prioritising and managing their responsibilities.
  • Participate in the NMCRH‑KC Quality Management System and continuous improvement activities, including auditing, surveys and needs analysis.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Head of Department or medical team.
  • Conduct research, training and development; maintain specialised professional knowledge and skills.
  • Develop and maintain specialist knowledge of adults and elders with physical disabilities, particularly in equipment and adaptations; act as a resource by providing detailed advice to team members.
  • Participate in educational courses and seminars relevant to service needs; share knowledge and skills with the occupational therapy service and multidisciplinary team.
  • Participate in staff and service development through attendance at service meetings and in‑service training; lead some sessions.
  • Provide leadership, advice, support and training to the team regarding highly specialised skills and knowledge.
  • Initiate research and evaluation projects relating to service development and establish professional dialogue with colleagues in a similar clinical field.
  • Adhere to the Environment, Health and Safety Management System, Occupational Health and Safety Guidelines and Infection Control Guidelines; comply with emergency preparedness, fire safety and code policies/plans.
  • Comply with OSH and infection control policies, standards and procedures; cooperate with hospital management to ensure compliance; work according to documented OSH procedures and instructions.
  • Assist with risk assessments, incident reports and waste management procedures; use appropriate personal protective equipment and safety system.
  • Attend OSH infection control training, mock drills and awareness programs.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Graduate from an approved college or university in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current license in country of origin with HAAD licence to practice in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, U.A.E.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience of practice in Occupational Therapy.
  • Excellent command of oral and written English; Arabic language advantageous but not essential.
  • Ability to work in cordial conditions in group practice in a hospital set‑up and as a member of a team.
  • Knowledge of the range and type of services available for aged/disabled persons.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to review procedures and implement new models of service delivery to satisfy client and organisational requirements.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality outcomes and ability to consult with staff regarding continuous improvement.
  • Sound computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
