Job Description
To support this growth, we are now looking for a Network Engineer to work within our Hosting Services team to oversee the ongoing delivery, administration and security compliance of the network infrastructure underpinning our hosted services internationally.
Responsibilities
- Provideexpert-level support forthenetworkinfrastructurethat underpins ourdatacenter basedservices.
- Ensure thatnetwork service levelsaremonitored,reviewedand reported on a regular basis,and that the necessary steps are taken to resolve any issues or negative trends that may beidentified.
- Ensure thatnetwork andrelated activities are completed within agreed timelines and/or in line with agreed schedules.
- Work with technical architects, projectmanagersand other stakeholders toidentify, assess,selectand presentappropriatenetworksolutions for their needs.
- Build and deploy agreed solutions withinspecifiedtimelines.
- Develop,implementand test disaster recoveryand/or network fail-overplans asrequired.
- Maintain operational acceptance criteria fornetworksolutionsto be supported by the hosting team,and work with theappropriate deliveryteams to ensure that these are met beforetransitioninto production.
- Ensure thatnetwork and associatedservicecomponentsunder managementare monitored 24x7 for availability,capacityandperformance.
- Monitor and report onnetwork capacityacross allnetworkelements, andpro-activelyidentifyand address potentialissuesin a timely manner.
- Ensure that agreednetwork and accessprocesses are followedand, in particular, thatevents,incidentsand requests are dealt within a timely mannerusingtheappropriateoperationalprocesses and tools.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with network and related security policies
- Ensure thatnetwork and relatedsolutions aredocumented, includingnetworkdiagrams,“as-built” configurations, IP address data,andsupport procedurese.g.“how tofail-over a connection”,etc.
- Maintaingoodrelationships withotherteam members, otherteams,customersand suppliersin order tomaximizeteam workingandcollaboration.
- Continue to look for waysthatthe service can be improved and,whereagreed,leadorassistwiththeimplementation of service improvements.In particular,focusonservice automation opportunitiesin line withthewiderhosted servicesstrategy andavailabletools; continue tooptimizeperformance,efficiencyandutilization.
- Provideconsultation to customersand stakeholders on in-life customer solutions.
- Provide 24x7 support as part of the wider hosting operations team.
Required experience & qualifications
- Minimum of CCNP with routing and switching or security certification
- Strongknowledgeandhands‑on experience ofconfiguring,troubleshootingandsupportingCiscoand F5networking equipmentin adatacentreenvironment,specificallyCiscoNexus switches,CiscoASA firewalls, F5 LTM and DNS load balancers.
- Strongnetwork designand management skillsand experience, including setting upfirewallrules, dynamic routing, load balancing, intrusiondetectionand prevention,setting upremote access and site-to-site VPNs.
- Strongpracticalexperience of following ITIL processes ina 24x7operations environment withtightSLA andsecuritycompliance requirements.
- Practical experience with the majority of:
- Cisco Nexus 7000/9000 series, NX-OS, IOS, VDC, VPC, HSRP, STP, NTP, logging, port channels, layer 3 switching
- Cisco ASR (100x), IOS, XE, OSFP, BGP, VRF, NTP, logging
- Cisco ASA, IPS,ASAv, Multi-context, ,IPSEC VPN,AnyconnectSSL VPN, NAT, ACLs
- F5 LTM, route domains, partitions, pools, nodes,irules, GTM – DNS Management, GLB
Desirable skills:
- Goodclient and relationship management ability withexcellentoral and written communicationand presentationskills
- Able todemonstrateflexibility, motivation as well as excellent problem solving and team working
- Knowledge of service monitoring andalerting (Nagios, Cactipreferred).
- Knowledge of configuration management (Puppet preferred).
- Ability to manage 3rdparty vendorse.g.F5,Cisco
