Job description

About the Role

The Museum Educators at NHMAD are responsible for delivering tours, workshops, and live interpretation (on-the-spot engagement activations) across the museum galleries and public spaces. These services cater to a diverse audience, including general visitors, school groups, and VIP tours, helping to connect them with the museum's rich narrative of natural history and scientific discovery.

Responsibilities:

  • Museum educators are responsible for delivering guided tours, educational workshops, and live interpretation sessions (on-the-spot activations) across the museum galleries and public spaces, ensuring both accuracy and audience engagement.
  • They may also be required to support off-site outreach activities as and when needed. Such requests will be communicated to the vendor in advance to ensure that operations and schedules are managed effectively, thereby minimizing any potential impact.
  • Facilitate school visits by adapting tours and workshops to suit different age groups and educational levels.
  • Deliver VIP tours (sometimes working alongside NHMAD staff) and tailor interpretation to high-profile audiences as directed by NHMAD/DCT.
  • Follow NHMAD-approved scripts/resources and interpretive frameworks, ensuring all content is correct but is also aligned with the museum's narrative and scientifically accurate.
  • Incorporate interactive and inquiry-based learning methods to engage visitors of all ages.
  • Provide live interpretation in galleries at scheduled times, including storytelling, object-handling, or interactive demonstrations.
  • Ensure full preparedness for every session by arriving early, reviewing scripts/resources, and checking any props or materials.
  • Monitor visitor engagement and adjust delivery styles to suit audience needs (children, families, adults, PoD).
  • Collect and record visitor attendance, feedback, and participation metrics for each programme delivered.
  • Support evaluation studies and surveys by assisting Surveyors or providing program-level data.
  • Maintain professional demeanour at all times, acting as ambassadors of NHMAD's mission and values.
  • Report any incidents, visitor complaints, or technical issues (e.g., malfunctioning AV, broken props) immediately to the Team Leader or Duty Manager.
  • Assist in training new Educators by shadowing, mentoring, and demonstrating best practice.
  • Ensure compliance with NHMAD HSE standards during workshops and live interpretation (no unsafe handling of objects, no overcrowding in small spaces, etc.).
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by sharing visitor insights, content suggestions, and innovative engagement ideas with the Team Leader and Training Manager.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience delivering workshops in a Zoo, cultural or educational setting.
  • Experience in delivering engaging interpretive themes, visitor journeys, exhibits, storyboards and content with clear learning outcomes including emotional and action-based outcomes for a variety of audiences.
  • Demonstrated organization and communication skills.
  • Dedication to ensuring that interpretive experiences are inclusive and accessible.
  • Knowledge of evaluation methods, ability to design and implement interpretive programs and guided tours.
  • Fluency in Arabic and English.

Preferred Experience

  • Additional languages.
  • Knowledge of the UAE Culture and Heritage.
