Job summary

Qualifications

• Apprentice trained or relevant engineering qualifications or experience.
• Full driving license.

Responsibilities

• Prepare for and complete maintenance tasks in accordance with specifications and instructions.
• Record all work in the maintenance management system and sign off work orders.
• Carry out fault finding and repair work as required.
• Carry out modifications and enhancements to rolling stock.
• Operate and service depot plant and equipment.
• Provide technical assistance on-board train services.
• Attend satellite locations to assist in the recovery of rolling stock and equipment.
• Undertake shunting and driving duties as required.
• Provide training and guidance to other rolling stock technicians.
• Maintain competence in vehicle maintenance and engage in capability training.
• Participate in continuous improvement and share best practices.
• Protect depot tools and equipment in good condition.
• Collect and record statistical data as required.
• Be part of a team and encourage teamwork.
• Work a shift roster to cover a 24/7 operation.
• Report unsafe acts and unserviceable equipment promptly.

Job description

In conjunction with the Fleet Foreman and other technicians, carry out the day to day maintenance, servicing and repairs on all types of Locomotive, Rolling Stock, plant and equipment. Travel out to remote locations in order to carry out repairs or to recover failed Rolling Stock and equipment.

Roles and Responsibility:

• Prepare for and complete maintenance tasks in accordance with laid down specifications and maintenance instructions and as directed by the Team Leader
• Ensure all work undertaken is recorded in the maintenance management system and relevant work orders signed for.
• Carry out fault finding and repair work as required.
• Carry out modifications and enhancements to Rolling Stock.
• Operation and servicing of depot plant and equipment.
• Provide technical assistance on-board train services.
• Attend satellite locations to assist in the recovery of Rolling Stock and equipment.
• Undertake shunting and driving duties as required.
• Provide training and guidance to other Rolling Stock technicians.
• Engage in and maintain competence skills in relation to vehicle maintenance.
• Engage in versatility training in order to add additional competences e.g. mechanical skills, electrical skills, non-destructive testing, welding, lathe operator, lifting equipment operator etc.
• Engage in a Continuous Improvement culture, fully engaging in the process of sharing best practice.
• Protect and maintain the depot's tools and equipment in a serviceable condition.
• Collect and record statistical data as required.
• Be part of a team and encourage team working.
• Work a shift roster in order to cover a 24/7 operation.
• Report unsafe acts and unserviceable equipment promptly.

Academic Qualifications:

• A good level of basic education

Professional Qualifications:

• Apprentice trained and/or relevant engineering qualifications or experience
• Full driving license

Experience:

• Multi skilled over a number of disciplines
• Rolling Stock Maintenance desirable, mainly on the Locomotive side
• Working in harsh environments
• Proven ability to work under pressure
• Ability to work in a team and on an individual basis

Other Skills:

• English as first language or advanced level of written and verbal skill
