Job summary

Sener in Dubai seeks a senior Rail & Metro tunnel design lead to drive TBM tunnel projects from concept to detailed design. You will provide technical leadership across the lifecycle and coordinate with clients and consultants on complex tunnel schemes.

Lead TBM tunnel design including alignments, lining, groundwater, and waterproofing while overseeing multidisciplinary teams and delivering high-quality outputs for major rail infrastructure programs in the region.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of engineering experience with extensive tunnel design experience.
• Mandatory Rail & Metro experience with tunnel design background.

Responsibilities

• Lead tunnel design delivery from concept through detailed design, ensuring technical quality and timely deliverables.
• Lead the design of TBM tunnels, including alignment, excavation methodology, segmental lining, waterproofing, and related structures.
• Coordinate tunnel design activities with multidisciplinary teams and manage technical interfaces.
• Review tunnel design calculations, drawings, specifications, reports and other deliverables.
• Coordinate with clients and external consultants on design requirements and reviews.
• Provide technical direction on shafts, portals, cross passages, groundwater and other tunnel structures.
• Identify and manage technical risks, interfaces and changes through the design process.
• Support the development of the local tunnel engineering team through mentoring and knowledge transfer.

Lead the delivery of TBM tunnel design for major Rail & Metro projects, providing technical leadership across the complete tunnel design lifecycle from concept through detailed design. The role requires extensive TBM tunnel design and delivery experience within an engineering consultancy environment, strong Rail & Metro experience, and proven ability to lead multidisciplinary design teams and coordinate with clients, external consultants, and other project stakeholders.

Key Job Responsibilities

• Lead tunnel design delivery from concept through detailed design, ensuring technical quality and timely completion of deliverables.
• Lead the design of TBM tunnels, including tunnel alignment, excavation methodology, segmental lining systems, waterproofing, and associated tunnel structures.
• Coordinate tunnel design activities with multidisciplinary engineering teams and manage technical interfaces throughout the design lifecycle.
• Review tunnel design calculations, drawings, specifications, reports, and other technical deliverables.
• Coordinate with clients, external consultants, and project stakeholders on design requirements, technical matters, and design reviews.
• Provide technical direction on shafts, portals, cross passages, groundwater, and other tunnel-related structures.
• Identify and manage technical risks, design issues, interfaces, and changes throughout the design process.
• Support the development of the local tunnel engineering team through technical leadership, mentoring, and knowledge transfer.

Job Requirements

• Minimum 15 years of overall engineering experience, with extensive tunnel design experience.
• Mandatory Rail & Metro experience with a strong background in tunnel design.
• Proven experience delivering TBM tunnel designs within an engineering consultancy environment.
• Strong technical knowledge of TBM tunneling, including segmental lining, tunnel alignment, excavation methodology, groundwater, and waterproofing.
• Experience across the complete tunnel design lifecycle, from concept and preliminary design through detailed design.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary tunnel design interfaces and working with clients and external consultants.
• Proven experience leading technical teams and managing tunnel design deliverables.
• Practical knowledge or experience with TBM machines and TBM tunneling methods.

Preferred Qualifications

• Regional or GCC Rail & Metro experience is preferred.
• Experience working on major underground infrastructure projects.
• Experience with major international engineering consultancies.
• Knowledge of international tunnel design standards and practices.
