Job summary

KBR, Inc. is seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer (Offshore) to direct all electrical engineering activities for oil & gas developments across the full lifecycle, including concept studies, FEED, detailed engineering, EPC support, commissioning, and startup.

The role requires leading a discipline team, coordinating with clients and vendors, and ensuring safe, reliable, and cost-effective electrical systems in line with ADNOC standards.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 15+ years of Electrical Engineering experience in Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, LNG, Offshore Facilities, or Energy sectors.
  • 5–8 years in a Lead Engineer or senior leadership role.
  • Minimum 5 years ADNOC project experience.
  • Experience delivering offshore and onshore brownfield and greenfield projects.
  • Chartered Engineer, PE or equivalent desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all Electrical Engineering deliverables for offshore and onshore projects across the full lifecycle.
  • Develop discipline execution strategies, work plans, resource forecasts, and project deliverable schedules.
  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers and designers to ensure quality and compliance.
  • Interface with Project Management, Engineering Management, Clients, Operations teams, and Vendors to drive project delivery.
  • Review and approve engineering deliverables prepared by the discipline team and subcontractors.
  • Support proposal preparation, technical bid evaluations, manpower estimation, and discipline planning.

Job Description - Lead Engineer

Key Consideration

Preference will be given to candidates holding valid OPITO‑approved T‑BOSIET/BOSIET and H₂S certifications with a minimum validity of six months. The selected candidate will be required to travel ADNOC offshore on a rotational basis to conduct site surveys, support brownfield assessments, verify existing installations, and obtain project‑specific engineering data necessary for design and execution.

Job Purpose
  • Lead, direct, and oversee all Electrical Engineering activities for offshore and onshore oil & gas developments across the full project lifecycle, including Concept Studies, FEED, Detailed Engineering, EPC support, Commissioning, and Start‑up.
  • Serve as the discipline technical authority, providing engineering leadership to ensure delivery of safe, reliable, maintainable, and cost‑effective electrical systems in compliance with client requirements, applicable standards, project schedules, and quality expectations.
  • Act as the focal point for power generation (including SOLAR Power system), distribution, electrical equipment, protection systems, hazardous area installations, energy management, and electrical safety matters while facilitating effective multidisciplinary coordination.
Key Responsibilities
  • Function as the Lead Engineer accountable for all Electrical Engineering deliverables, technical integrity, and discipline team performance.
  • Develop and implement discipline execution strategies, engineering work plans, resource forecasts, and project deliverable schedules.
  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers and designers, ensuring consistency, quality, and compliance across all engineering activities.
  • Interface effectively with Project Management, Engineering Management, Clients, Operations teams, and Vendors to achieve successful project delivery.
  • Review, approve, and monitor engineering deliverables prepared by discipline team members, consultants, and subcontractors.
  • Support proposal preparation, technical bid evaluations, manpower estimation, cost forecasting, and discipline planning activities.
  • Lead brownfield modification projects, debottlenecking studies, facility upgrades, electrical system expansion, and power system enhancement initiatives for offshore and onshore facilities.
  • Conduct offshore and onshore site surveys, field verification activities, data collection, constructability assessments, and brownfield feasibility reviews.
  • Develop scopes of work for site surveys, shutdown campaigns, tie‑ins, plant modifications, and electrical system upgrade projects.
  • Assess operational constraints and develop practical engineering solutions that minimize production impacts and optimize shutdown durations.
  • Participate in offshore campaigns, Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), commissioning, start‑up, and troubleshooting activities as required.
  • Provide technical leadership in the preparation, review, and approval of all Electrical Engineering deliverables throughout Concept, FEED, and Detailed Engineering phases.
Electrical Design & Technical Leadership
  • Lead the development, review, and approval of:
    • Electrical load lists and load summaries
    • Power system studies
    • Single Line Diagrams (SLDs)
    • Electrical philosophies
    • Equipment specifications and datasheets
    • Electrical Equipment sizing calculation
    • Subsea cable sizing calculation
    • Cable schedules and cable routing layouts
    • Earthing and lightning protection designs
    • Hazardous area layouts and equipment schedules
    • Electrical layouts, lighting designs, and equipment installation drawings
    • Navigational and Helideck lighting design
  • Review and approve vendor documents for major electrical equipment including:
    • Gas Turbine Generators
    • Diesel Generators
    • Solar Power System
    • Motors
    • Transformers
    • Switchgear
    • Motor Control Centers (MCCs)
    • Variable Speed Drives (VSDs/VFDs)
    • UPS systems
    • Battery systems
    • Lead electrical system adequacy assessments and studies for brownfield facilities.
    • Ensure electrical system modifications are fully integrated with existing operational facilities.
Power System Engineering
  • Lead and review & Approval:
    • Load flow studies
    • Short circuit studies
    • Motor starting studies
    • Transient stability studies
    • Harmonic analysis
    • Arc flash assessments
    • Protection coordination studies
    • Relay setting calculations
    • Ensure safe and reliable operation of electrical distribution networks and critical power systems.
    • Evaluate system expansion requirements and future capacity needs.
Compliance & Standards
  • Ensure full compliance with ADNOC specifications, standards, and project‑specific requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, NFPA, API, NEMA, BS EN and ATEX/IECEx standards.
  • Ensure compliance with electrical safety regulations and hazardous area requirements.
Interface & Coordination
  • Coordinate closely with Process, Mechanical, Piping, Instrumentation & Control, Telecommunications, Civil, Structural, and HSE disciplines to ensure seamless integration of design solutions.
  • Lead interdisciplinary design reviews, technical workshops, and engineering resolution meetings.
  • Liaise with Clients, Vendors, OEMs, Certification Authorities, and third‑party stakeholders to ensure technical compliance and resolve engineering challenges.
  • Support procurement, construction, commissioning, pre‑commissioning, and start‑up activities.
Project Execution
  • Monitor discipline progress against approved schedules, budgets, and project milestones.
  • Identify technical and execution risks and implement effective mitigation strategies.
  • Support project planning, forecasting, progress reporting, and resource management activities.
  • Ensure timely resolution of technical issues and effective implementation of Management of Change (MOC) processes.
  • Facilitate design reviews, technical assurance activities, and value engineering initiatives to optimize project outcomes.
  • Ensure maintainability, operability, reliability, lifecycle performance, and asset integrity considerations are embedded within the design.
  • Ensure adherence to QA/QC procedures, engineering standards, procurement requirements, and project execution procedures.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging innovative technologies including electrical digitalization, condition monitoring, smart substations, power management systems, and energy optimization solutions.
  • Coordinate and participate in OEM electrical equipment/system adequacy assessments and review and approve adequacy study reports.
Experience
  • Minimum 15+ years of Electrical Engineering experience in Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, LNG, Offshore Facilities, or Energy sectors.
  • Minimum 5 to 8 years in a Lead Engineer, Senior Lead Engineer, or equivalent leadership capacity.
  • Minimum 5 years ADNOC project experience.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering both offshore and onshore brownfield and greenfield projects.
  • Extensive working knowledge of ADNOC Group projects, engineering practices, and technical standards.
  • Proven experience across FEED, Detailed Engineering, EPC, PMC, Construction, and Commissioning environments.
  • Strong exposure to offshore production facilities, wellhead platforms, central processing facilities, offshore substations, and related infrastructure.
  • Experience in electrical system upgrades, power system studies, substation projects, and brownfield modifications is highly desirable.
  • Experience supporting offshore shutdowns, tie‑ins, and live plant modifications is preferred.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Chartered Engineer, PE or equivalent certifications desirable.
Technical Skills
  • Strong expertise in the design, specification, and implementation of Electrical System.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of power generation, transmission, distribution, and utilization systems.
  • Strong knowledge of ETAP, SKM, DIgSILENT and AVEVA/SPEL Electrical.
  • In‑depth knowledge of hazardous area classification, equipment selection, certification requirements (IECEx/ATEX), and installation practices for hazardous zones.
  • Thorough understanding of FEED and Detailed Engineering deliverables, document management systems, MOC processes, and project controls.
  • Strong experience with emergency power systems, Solar Power System, Navigational light system, UPS systems, battery systems, and Power Management Systems (PMS).
  • Thorough understanding of offshore electrical installations and ADNOC design requirements.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, technical decision‑making, and leadership capabilities.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, project coordination, and organizational skills.
