Job summary

Emirates Electrical & Instrumentation Company LLC is seeking a Lead Civil / Structural Engineer for offshore platform projects. Qualifications

  • 16+ years in Oil & Gas industry.

Responsibilities

  • Provide structural owner-engineer oversight for offshore platform projects.
  • Lead governance for integration of equipment and platforms, including load and support checks.
  • Review analyses (global/local FEA, vibration, fatigue) and ensure compliance with design criteria.
  • Participate in EPC model reviews (30/60/90%).
  • Provide QA/QC and fabrication oversight; approve structural works offshore.

Lead Civil / Structural Engineer [Offshore Platform]

For almost 20 years, we have made vital contributions to the Oil & Gas sector of the UAE, executing both onshore and offshore projects. Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) is one of our main clients along with Tier 1 and Tier 2 EPC contractors in this sector. We have the expertise to carry out full EPC&M services for electrical and instrumentation works and bring our intrinsic knowledge to measure and automate exploration, production, separation, refining processes, and distribution through our localized services.

1. Structural Discipline Technical Authority (Owner’s Engineer)
  • Serve as the primary authority for all structural engineering activities related to IA/PA upgrades, ensuring adherence to ISO, API RP2A, AISC, BS, and offshore structural codes.
  • Ensure compliance with ADNOC offshore brownfield requirements.
  • Validate Project Basis of Design and FEED integrity.
  • Maintain structural integrity and safety requirements for all package equipment.
  • Provide clear oversight and final approval on structural discipline matters.
2. Structural Review of Package Equipment Integration
  • Lead structural engineering governance for integrating instrument air compressors, twin tower dryers, IA/PA air receivers, associated skid structures and platforms, lifting frames, base frames, and support steel.
  • Verify skid loading, static and dynamic reactions.
  • Check structural adequacy of supporting platforms.
  • Ensure offshore environmental load conditions are considered.
3. Brownfield Structural Assessment & Tie-In Engineering
  • Review as-built drawings, laser scans, and survey data.
  • Identify reinforcement needs for increased loads.
  • Check space constraints and structural conflicts.
  • Ensure safe access and maintenance clearance.
  • Review EPC brownfield method statements.
  • Verify tie-in locations for new supports and routing.
  • Confirm deck rating suitability for compressors and dryers.
  • Support safe brownfield execution under SIMOPS and offshore constraints.
4. Structural Analysis Review & Verification
  • Review EPC contractor structural analyses including global and local FEA, deck load and punching shear checks, fatigue analysis, vibration assessments for rotating equipment, dynamic load and equipment vibration transmission.
  • Evaluate wind, wave, and seismic load effects for offshore, ensuring all structural calculations meet ADNOC safety factors and design criteria.
  • Check clearances, access, and maintenance envelopes and detect structural element clashes with piping, E&I, and trays.
  • Review cable tray and piping penetrations, location and routing of additional supports, and structural stability and stiffness.
  • Participate in 30%, 60%, and 90% EPC model review sessions.
  • Provide structural owner-engineer oversight for installation engineering, reviewing temporary lifting frames, ensuring compliance with offshore lifting standards, and verifying transport and installation load conditions.
7. Structural Safety & Process Integrity Support
  • Provide structural input for HAZID, HAZOP (structural interface actions), SIMOPS reviews, ENVID, fire protection, and blast loading assessments.
  • Ensure structural integrity is maintained during all phases of EPC.
8. Review of EPC Structural Deliverables
  • Review and approve structural drawings (GAs, details, reinforcements), fabrication drawings, welding maps, WPS/PQR/NDE requirements, structural MTOs, tie-in support drawings, and demolition and modification drawings.
  • Ensure alignment with ADNOC formats and numbering.
9. QA/QC & Fabrication Oversight
  • Review EPC QCP/ITP for structural fabrication.
  • Validate material traceability and weld quality.
  • Monitor fabrication progress as required.
  • Approve structural works before delivery offshore.
11. Documentation, Reporting & Compliance
  • Maintain structural discipline registers including load sheets, analyses, GA tracking.
  • Review weekly EPC progress and structural updates.
  • Ensure full compliance with ADNOC document control requirements.
  • Verify final as-built structural documentation.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 16+ years of experience in the Oil & Gas industry.
  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
  • Experience with Offshore Platform projects is preferred.
  • Familiarity with ADNOC Standards and Procedures is an added advantage.
  • Proficiency in AVEVA E3D/PDMS and SP3D for structural modelling, steel framing, platform design, clash detection, and extraction of structural GA drawings, fabrication details, and IFC and MTO deliverables according to ADNOC design standards.
  • Experience with SACS, STAAD, Tekla Structures, AutoCAD, Navisworks, and AVEVA E3D and SP3D for offshore structural analysis, 3D modelling, detailing, and preparation of IFC/MTO deliverables required for ADNOC projects.
