Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Zoology, Animal Science, Wildlife Management, Conservation Biology, Veterinary Science, or a closely related discipline.
• Extensive leadership experience in zoological settings with a focus on avian collections.
• Experience managing zoological bird collections within accredited institutions.
• Experience in welfare assessment, population management, conservation breeding, behavioral management, staff leadership, budgeting, and strategic planning.
• Experience working with AZA, EAZA, SEAZA, WAZA, ZAA, BIAZA, or similar bodies.

Responsibilities

• Lead planning, management, and long-term development of all avian programs.
• Maintain high animal welfare, husbandry, nutrition, enrichment, breeding, and veterinary collaboration.
• Oversee acquisitions, transfers, breeding, population sustainability, and collection development.
• Mentor and develop supervisors, keepers, trainers, interns, and volunteers; foster professional growth.
• Collaborate with Veterinary Services, Animal Welfare, Facilities, and Education teams for integrated management.
• Ensure safety and risk management programs related to the avian collection.
