Position Summary

The department of Biology, Chemistry and Environmental Sciences (BCE) is seeking to hire Laboratory Specialist. The Laboratory Specialist will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, calibration, and management of advanced analytical, characterization, and spectroscopic instrumentation within BCE. The position supports both teaching and research by ensuring instruments are properly maintained, calibrated, and available for use by students, faculty, and researchers. The specialist also provides technical training, develops analytical methods, and ensures compliance with institutional and safety regulations.

Job Responsibilities
  • Perform regular maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration of analytical instruments (e.g., FTIR, UV–Vis, Fluorescence Spectroscopy, HPLC, GC–MS, IC, ICP, AA, BET, TGA, and others).
  • Assist faculty, researchers, and students with instrument operation; provide hands‑on training, demonstrations, and user guidance.
  • Develop and optimize analytical methods and protocols to support teaching and research.
  • Ensure accurate data acquisition, processing, and recordkeeping.
  • Recommend and coordinate the procurement, installation, and validation of new instruments.
  • Maintain inventory records and service logs for all departmental instruments.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional safety and environmental regulations; participate in safety training and audits.
  • Collaborate with faculty and laboratory staff to support instructional and research needs.
Qualifications and Skills Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a related scientific field required; a Master’s degree is referred.
  • Minimum of five years of hands‑on experience operating and maintaining analytical and spectroscopic instruments in academic or research laboratories.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Familiarity with laboratory management systems and safety documentation.
  • Experience coordinating with vendors for maintenance and service contracts.
  • Expertise in operating, maintaining, and calibrating major analytical instruments (FTIR, UV–Vis, HPLC, GC–MS, etc.).
  • Proficiency in data analysis and instrument control software.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and documentation.
  • Ability to train and support users on diverse instrument platforms.
