Job summary

Technology Innovation Institute in the United Arab Emirates is seeking a Robotics Engineer to join the Robotics Research Center. You will help integrate autopilot systems, payloads, and autonomy modules to enable mission-ready aerial robotics solutions.

The ideal candidate has at least 2 years in flight control or UAV integration, hands-on experience with PX4/ArduPilot, DJI SDKs, Gazebo and ROS2, and strong C/C++/Python skills for embedded development and system integration.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years in flight control, UAV integration, or related fields.
• Hands-on expertise with PX4, ArduPilot, DJI SDKs (or equivalents).
• Proficiency in C, C++, and Python for embedded development and tooling.
• Experience with diverse autopilot platforms, payloads and comms protocols.

• Autopilot Management: setup, maintain, and tune autopilots for drone platforms.
• Payload Integration: install and test imaging, sensing and actuation payloads.

• Technology Innovation Institute (TII) is a publicly funded research institute, based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. It is home to a diverse community of leading scientists, engineers, mathematicians, and researchers from across the globe, transforming problems and roadblocks into pioneering research and technology prototypes that help move society ahead.

This role is part of TII’s Robotics Research Center.

You’ll be joining a team that specializes in bringing together diverse technology components to drive our civil aerial robotics projects. We focus on merging the work of research teams to create functioning prototypes that are ready for real-world application. Our primary aim is to transform initial concepts into practical, operational solutions.

• Autopilot Management: Setup, maintain, and fine-tune autopilots for various drone platforms, ensuring optimal performance.
• Payload Integration: Install, configure, and test diverse payloads - including imaging (RGB, multispectral, thermal), sensing (LiDAR, SAR, environmental sensors), and actuation (spraying, seeding, custom tools) - to meet mission needs.
• Autonomy & Mission Integration: Configure and adapt autonomy modules and SDK-based systems to enable mission execution and automated operations.

Required Skills:

• Experience: Minimum 2 years in flight control, UAV integration, or related fields.
• Autopilot & Frameworks: Hands‑on expertise with PX4, ArduPilot, DJI SDKs (or equivalents), plus simulation and middleware tools such as Gazebo and ROS2.
• Programming: Proficiency in C, C++, and Python for embedded development, system integration, and toolchain scripting.
• UAV Systems Knowledge: Practical experience across different autopilot platforms, payloads, and communication protocols.
• Technical Tools: Strong skills in software/hardware debugging, simulation environments, and integration workflows for flight control systems.
• Flight Experience (Nice‑to‑Have): Experience operating drones with the appropriate pilot license is a strong asset.

Education Requirements

Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
