Project Manager – Gas Insulation Switchgear (GIS) Extension – 1 year contract

Job Description

KVI is seeking an experienced High Voltage (HV) Project Manager to oversee the extension of a new Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) bay as part of an existing substation project in Abu Dhabi. The ideal candidate will have adequate experience with Gas Insulated Switchgear, preferably with Hitachi Energy GIS, and background in managing high-voltage projects.The role involves coordinating with clients, subcontractors, and other stakeholders while ensuring the successful execution of the project, including managing outages required for integrating the new GIS bay into the existing infrastructure.

• Lead and manage the execution of the GIS bay extension project, ensuring it meets technical, financial, and schedule requirements.
• Drive & report the field construction, installation, testing, and commissioning of the Gas Insulated Switchgear system.
• Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards in all aspects of the project.
• Manage project budgets, schedules, and risk mitigation plans.
• Supervise and coordinate subcontractors, ensuring alignment with project objectives and timely execution of their scope.
• Interface with the client, authorities, and other stakeholders to maintain alignment and resolve any issues that arise during the project lifecycle.
• Plan and coordinate necessary outages to integrate the new GIS bay with the existing substation, minimizing disruptions to operations.
• Ensure proper documentation, reporting, and communication throughout the project lifecycle.
• Lead project meetings, track progress, and implement corrective actions as needed.
• Provide technical guidance and support to site teams, ensuring adherence to best practices and industry standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree/ Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in high-voltage substation projects, including Gas Insulated Switchgear systems.
• Must have worked on TRANSCO projects, before and understand their working standards.
• Strong expertise in GIS technology, preferably with experience in Hitachi Energy GIS solutions.
• Proven experience in managing subcontractors, stakeholders, and clients in the power sector.
• Demonstrated ability to manage outages and commissioning phases effectively.
• Strong understanding of safety standards, regulatory compliance, and best practices in high-voltage projects.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work under pressure, handle multiple priorities, and drive results within tight deadlines.
• Experience working in the Middle East, particularly in Abu Dhabi.
• PMP or equivalent project management certification is an advantage.
