Talent2Africa is recruiting on behalf of its partner, a leading international player in the Oil & Gas Trading sector, with strong operations in West Africa (notably Cameroon and Nigeria).

Job Description

The Head of Trading will be responsible for leading and expanding oil & gas trading activities with a strong focus on West African markets. This senior role combines commercial, financial, and operational responsibilities, including structuring trade finance, overseeing shipping and logistics, and building strong partnerships with local and international stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute trading strategies for refined petroleum products.
  • Identify, negotiate, and close profitable transactions.
  • Leverage trade finance expertise to structure deals and manage Letters of Credit (LCs).
  • Ensure operational efficiency and risk management through sound trading and hedging practices.
Shipping & Logistics
  • Oversee maritime operations including chartering, freight negotiations, and ship-to-ship (STS) transfers.
  • Manage relationships with shipping agents, port authorities, and logistics providers.
  • Ensure compliance with international shipping and environmental regulations.
  • Troubleshoot operational challenges at ports and terminals to ensure timely and cost-effective deliveries.
Market Analysis & Regional Expertise
  • Monitor market trends, price movements, and geopolitical developments.
  • Build networks with suppliers, refiners, and regulators.
  • Provide actionable insights to guide trading decisions.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with global and regional suppliers.
  • Negotiate long‑term contracts with customers and end‑users.
  • Proactively address customer needs to ensure satisfaction and loyalty.
Compliance & Risk Management
  • Ensure all trading and operational activities comply with local and international regulations.
  • Identify and mitigate trading, credit, and operational risks.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for contracts, settlements, and shipping operations.
Business Development
  • Identify and capitalize on new trading opportunities in West Africa.
  • Align trading activities with the company’s growth strategy.
  • Represent the organization at industry events, conferences, and networking forums.
Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Energy, or related field. MBA or equivalent is preferred.
  • Experience: 10+ years of experience in oil & gas trading with a strong focus on West Africa.
  • Expertise in trade finance (structuring LCs, managing credit risks).
  • Solid track record in shipping and logistics (STS transfers, port management).
  • Established network of industry players in Cameroon, Nigeria, and the wider West African region.
  • Skills: Strong analytical and strategic thinking abilities.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in both French and English highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with trading platforms and financial instruments.
