As a Functional Consultant specialising in D365 Finance, you will: Lead and support the end-to-end implementation, configuration, optimisation and ongoing support of Dynamics 365 Finance modules; Act as a bridge between business finance stakeholders and technical teams, ensuring business requirements are properly understood, translated into system configuration, and delivered in line with best practice; Champion continuous process improvement, ensuring our finance systems support strategic objectives, regulatory requirements, and scale well as the organisation grows.
Key Responsibilities
- Elicit, analyse and document detailed business requirements from finance stakeholders (e.g. FP&A, accounting, treasury, tax, controllership).
- Translate requirements into functional design specifications, fit-gap analyses, and solution proposals.
- Configure and implement core D365 Finance modules such as General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Fixed Assets, Cash & Bank, Budgeting, and Project Accounting.
- Define and verify integrations with other systems (e.g. external tax engines, procurement/supply chain, reporting tools).
- Lead and facilitate workshops, training sessions, user acceptance testing (UAT), and data migration activities.
- Produce documentation (e.g. process maps, configuration guides, user manuals).
- Provide go-live support, post-implementation stabilisation and continuous improvement suggestions.
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations (e.g. UK GAAP, IFRS where relevant), audit requirements, and internal controls.
- Collaborate closely with technical consultants, solution architects, project managers, and external partners/vendors.
- Keep abreast of updates and enhancements in D365 Finance and recommend how these can be leveraged.
Qualifications
- Proven experience (typically 3‑5+ years) working as a D365 Finance Functional Consultant (or in a very similar role), with full or substantial lifecycle implementation experience (design through to go‑live and post‑go‑live).
- Deep knowledge of finance processes and best practices (GL, AR, AP, FA, cash management, budgeting, period‑end close).
- Strong understanding of integration, data migration, and reporting components in ERP environments.
- Excellent communication skills — able to engage with business finance users and translate technical detail into business‑friendly language.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving capability, including experience with fit‑gap analysis and process re‑engineering.
- Experience working in matrix / cross‑functional teams and managing stakeholder expectations.
- Comfortable working in both structured (governed) environments and agile or hybrid project delivery methodologies.
Desirable / Nice‑to‑Have
- Relevant Microsoft certifications (e.g. MB‑310: Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance, MB‑300 etc.).
- Experience of multi‑entity, multi‑currency, multinational implementations.
- Knowledge of regulatory, statutory, tax, and audit requirements in the UK / Europe (VAT, IFRS, etc.).
- Familiarity with tools such as Lifecycle Services (LCS), Azure DevOps, RSAT, Power Platform (Power BI, Power Automate).
- Experience of using Agile / Scrum delivery, DevOps practices.
- Exposure to financial reporting, BI tools, dashboarding.
