Context

Missions/Main Duties

• Lead and oversee sustainability and environmental strategies for the high-speed rail project lifecycle, ensuring compliance with UAE regulations and international best practices.
• Develop and implement environmental management systems (EMS) and sustainability frameworks for design, construction, and operations phases.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant UAE federal and local environmental laws, sustainability policies, and requirements from regulatory authorities.
• Coordinate environmental permitting and approvals, including EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment), ecological and social impact studies.
• Advise the project team on integrating sustainable solutions, including energy efficiency, water conservation, waste minimization, and green building standards.
• Monitor and report environmental performance and sustainability KPIs throughout the project lifecycle.
• Engage with stakeholders: Including government agencies, local communities, and consultants, to communicate environmental management and sustainability initiatives.
• Provide technical guidance on environmental risk management, mitigation measures, and remediation strategies.
• Conduct training and awareness programs for project staff and contractors on sustainability and environmental compliance.
• Support procurement by integrating sustainable sourcing and waste management requirements into contract documents.

Profile/Skills

Education: Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering, or related field.

Background:

• Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in environmental and sustainability management, ideally in rail, infrastructure, or large-scale construction projects.
• In-depth knowledge of UAE environmental regulations and international sustainability standards (LEED, BREEAM, ISO 14001, etc.).
• Experience with Environmental Impact Assessments and environmental permitting in the UAE or GCC.
• Strong project management and communication skills; ability to influence multidisciplinary teams.
• Professional certification in sustainability or environmental management is an advantage.
