Job description

Position: Environmental & Social (E&S) Lead

Location: Dubai, UAE (Residential)

Rotation/Missions: Occasional travel to Iraq (around 5 short missions per year)

Start Date: January 2026

About the Role

An experienced Environmental & Social Lead is required to oversee and implement all environmental, social, and sustainability programs within a large-scale upstream oil & gas development. The position will play a pivotal role in ensuring compliance with international standards and driving continuous improvement across all E&S activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate the development and implementation of Environmental & Social KPIs.
  • Ensure project compliance with international environmental and social standards, protocols, and conventions (UN, WHO, IFC, ISO, IOGP, etc.).
  • Develop and maintain Environmental Risk Registers and Environmental Management System (EMS) documentation.
  • Manage Environmental & Social Action Plans, including biodiversity, waste management, carbon footprint reduction, and water use programs.
  • Conduct inspections, audits, and performance reviews across all project locations.
  • Review and validate contractor E&S documentation and performance.
  • Develop and deliver environmental training and awareness campaigns.
  • Collaborate with operations and societal teams on CSR and sustainability initiatives.
  • Support investigations and emergency response related to environmental incidents.
  • Ensure proper implementation of mitigation measures by contractors and subcontractors.
Candidate Profile
  • Degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in environmental management within large-scale onshore oil & gas construction or project environments.
  • Strong understanding of environmental policies, management systems, and risk assessments.
  • Proven ability to manage environmental documentation and compliance audits.
  • Experience with major international operators or EPC contractors.
  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
  • Proactive, autonomous, and capable of working cross-functionally.
