Job Summary
The Grade 5–6 English Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in English language and literacy, fostering strong reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension skills in upper elementary students. The teacher will plan engaging lessons, provide differentiated support, manage classroom behavior, and assess student progress in alignment with the school’s academic standards and SPEA/MOE requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- 1. Teaching & Instruction
- Teach English subject content for Grades 5–6, focusing on reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and speaking/listening skills.
- Plan and deliver engaging, student-centered lessons aligned with curriculum standards.
- Use diverse instructional strategies to support mixed-ability learners, including ELLs.
- Integrate technology (Smartboard, LMS, digital reading tools) to enhance learning.
- 2. Classroom Management
- Maintain a positive, structured, and respectful learning environment.
- Implement age-appropriate behavior management strategies.
- Establish classroom routines, expectations, and procedures that promote student responsibility and independence.
- 3. Assessment & Progress Monitoring
- Design and administer formative and summative assessments.
- Track student progress and maintain accurate grade records.
- Provide timely feedback to students to improve their work and performance.
- Prepare progress reports and participate in report card meetings.
- 4. Literacy Development
- Promote reading culture through guided reading, independent reading, and literacy-based activities.
- Support students in developing critical thinking, comprehension, and analytical writing skills.
- Identify struggling readers/writers and provide targeted interventions.
- 5. Collaboration & Professional Practice
- Work collaboratively with grade-level colleagues, subject teachers, and school leadership.
- Participate in curriculum planning, team meetings, and professional development sessions.
- Support schoolwide initiatives, literacy events, and extracurricular programs when needed.
- 6. Parent & Community Engagement
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding academic progress, behavior, and learning strategies.
- Attend parent–teacher meetings, open houses, and school celebrations.
- Provide guidance to parents on supporting literacy development at home.
- 7. Administrative Responsibilities
- Prepare lesson plans, teaching materials, and documentation required by the school and SPEA.
- Ensure responsible use and care of classroom resources, textbooks, and digital tools.
- Adhere to school policies, safeguarding guidelines, and health & safety procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or related field (B.Ed preferred).
- Minimum 2–3 years of teaching experience in upper elementary or middle school (UAE experience preferred).
- Proficiency in English (native or near-native fluency).
- Strong understanding of literacy instruction, grammar, writing, and reading pedagogy.
- Knowledge of UAE/SPEA curriculum expectations and assessment standards.
- Excellent communication, classroom management, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to integrate technology into teaching and learning.
