Job summary

Simone's Tutoring in Abu Dhabi is seeking an English & IELTS tutor for in-person, one-to-one sessions. You will strengthen general English and deliver targeted IELTS strategies, with diagnostic assessments to identify gaps.

Responsibilities include teaching all four IELTS skills, providing band-focused feedback, and designing personalized learning plans aligned with learner dates and goals. A relevant degree and a teaching credential are preferred.

Qualifications

• Degree in English, linguistics or related field.
• CELTA/DELTA/TESOL or equivalent teaching credential.
• Minimum 2 years English-language teaching, IELTS prep or ESL tutoring.
• Strong command of IELTS format and band descriptors.

About the Role

Role Overview

We are recruiting an English & IELTS Tutor in Abu Dhabi for individualised face-to-face language and test-preparation support. The tutor should strengthen underlying English while teaching efficient IELTS strategies, timed practice and band-focused feedback.

Teaching Scope

Deliver personalised one-to-one English and IELTS tutoring according to the learner's current proficiency, target band score, test date and wider language goals.

Teach general and academic English skills including grammar, vocabulary, sentence structure, reading comprehension, writing accuracy, pronunciation, fluency and listening comprehension.

Prepare learners for IELTS Academic and/or IELTS General Training within the tutor's verified experience.

Teach IELTS Listening strategies including prediction, distractor awareness, spelling accuracy, note completion, multiple choice, matching and map/diagram tasks.

Teach IELTS Reading strategies including skimming, scanning, locating evidence, paraphrase recognition, matching headings, True/False/Not Given, Yes/No/Not Given and time management.

Teach IELTS Writing Task 1 and Task 2 as appropriate, including task analysis, planning, paragraph structure, cohesion, lexical choice, grammatical range and accuracy, data description, argument development and editing.

Teach IELTS Speaking Parts 1, 2 and 3 through structured practice, fluency development, pronunciation work, vocabulary expansion and feedback linked to public band-descriptor criteria.

Use diagnostic tasks and practice tests to identify specific language gaps rather than relying only on repeated mock tests.

Teach exam timing, question-type strategy, error analysis and realistic score-improvement planning.

Support EAL/ESL learners who need stronger foundational English before intensive IELTS preparation.

Provide clear written and verbal feedback that helps learners understand why an answer or response loses marks and what to improve next.

Maintain academic integrity and do not complete assessed coursework, application essays or other submitted work on the learner's behalf.

A recognised degree in English, English Language, Linguistics, TESOL, Education, Applied Linguistics or a closely related field.

A recognised English-language teaching qualification such as CELTA, DELTA, TESOL, TEFL, PGCE/QTS in English or another substantial professional teaching credential.

Minimum 2 years of relevant English-language teaching, IELTS preparation, EAL/ESL tutoring or comparable experience.

Strong practical knowledge of IELTS test format, question types, timing and public band-descriptor criteria.

Ability to teach all four IELTS skills or to clearly identify any skill areas outside the tutor's verified expertise.

Excellent spoken and written English with strong grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and academic-writing knowledge.

Ability to diagnose language gaps and create a targeted learning plan based on current level, target band and available preparation time.

Strong professional communication, punctuality, safeguarding awareness and academic-integrity standards.

Legal authorisation to provide private tutoring in the UAE and a valid MOHRE Private Tutor Work Permit, or eligibility to obtain the permit before accepting assignments.

Reliable personal transportation and willingness to travel to students' homes or approved learning venues in Abu Dhabi.

Preferred Experience

Experience teaching IELTS Academic and/or General Training in structured language programmes or private tutoring.

Strong experience with writing feedback and speaking assessment practice.

Experience working with multilingual learners preparing for university, professional or migration pathways.

Experience using IELTS public band descriptors to structure feedback.

Experience balancing language development with test strategy when learners have limited preparation time.

Experience tracking progress through targeted practice rather than relying only on full mock tests.
