Job summary

AECOM MIDDLE EAST LIMITED DUBAI BRANCH is looking for an experienced Site Engineer for TBM/NATM tunnels to lead on-site supervision on a major rail project in Dubai. The role reports to the Construction Manager - Tunnels and acts as the client’s representative on site.

Responsibilities include reviewing construction plans, contractor records, submittals, and field data; signing off tunneling progress; and ensuring technical compliance across temporary works and ground support systems.

Qualifications

• More than 10 years of experience on large infrastructure projects, including MEA rail schemes.
• Proven experience in underground rail project delivery.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering geology, tunnel or civil engineering.

Responsibilities

• Attend daily review meetings to ensure construction plans align with design.
• Review Contractor records: advancement, geotechnical, probe drilling, ground monitoring, water inflow and grouting.
• Sign off tunneling records and allow works to progress.
• Review technical submittals including temporary works, MARs, RFIs, NCRs, FCD, shop drawings and as-built designs.
• Review on-site surveys, installation of tunnel support and grouting proposals.
• Verify rock support and grouting requirements via face-mapping when needed.
• Review survey reports and monitoring records.
• Approve contractor’s ground improvement grouting in poor ground.

Job Description

The Site Engineer - TBM / NATM Tunnels will lead the site supervision works for a major rail project in Dubai as part of the PMEC team. They will report directly to the Construction Manager - Tunnels whilst acting as the Clients representative on site. The role includes the following.

• Attendance at daily review meetings to ensure the Contractor’s proposed construction plan for each work front is in accordance with the design and planning.
• Review of construction records provided by the Contractor, including advancement records, geotechnical records, probe drilling records, ground monitoring, water inflow and grouting information.
• Review and technical sign-off of daily tunneling records allowing the works to progress.
• Undertake the review of technical submittals including; temporary works designs (e.g. excavation progress, tunnel ventilation, tunnel drainage designs etc), material acceptance requests (MARs), requests for information (RFIs), non-conformance reports (NCRs), field change design (FCD) proposals, shop drawings and as-built design information.
• Review and technical approval of all contractor works, surveys, monitoring etc
• Where required for technical review and checking, the ability to conduct face-mapping to verify rock support and grouting requirements for NATM tunnel advancement.
• Review and technical approval of survey reports and support proposals submitted by the Contractor
• Review and technical approval of the Contractor’s on-site records for installation of tunnel support/stabilization measures.
• Review and technical approval of the Contractor’s proposals for grouting of rock dowels and rock bolts as required for NATM.
• Review and technical approval of the Contractor’s survey and instrumentation and monitoring records.
• Review and technical approval of the Contractor’s proposals for ground improvement grouting in exceptionally poor ground.

Key Experience:

• More than 10 years experience on large infrastructure projects, preferably including major rail schemes with a minimum of 5 years working in MEA.
• Proven experience in the construction delivery of underground rail projects.

Key Knowledge and Skills:

• In-depth knowledge of relevant codes, regulations, and standards related to civil engineering in the rail industry.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
• Problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving technical challenges.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering geology, tunnel engineering, civil engineering or a related field.
