Job summary

Vertiv seeks an Electrical Engineer – Design & Application for MV switchgear (up to 36kV) to execute detailed design, protection engineering, and application tasks. You will review schematics, perform protective relay calculations, and support FAT/commissioning.

The role requires 5–10 years of MV switchgear experience, strong IEC knowledge, and proficiency with AutoCAD/EPLAN. On-site UAE delivery will involve cross-functional collaboration and project support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 5–10 years of experience in MV switchgear design and protection engineering.
• Strong knowledge of IEC 62271 series and protection standards (IEC 60255).
• Hands-on experience with numerical relay programming (ABB / Siemens / Schneider).

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review SLDs, GA drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and interlocking logic for MV switchgear (AIS/GIS up to 36kV or company scope).
• Perform busbar sizing, short-circuit calculations, and thermal considerations.
• Configure and program protection relays per project philosophy and develop trip matrix.
• Support FAT, commissioning, and site queries with technical clarification to customers and project teams.
• Review customer specifications and propose optimized, compliant solutions.

Job Title

Electrical Engineer – Design & Application (Medium Voltage Switchgear)

Job Purpose

To execute detailed design and application engineering of Medium Voltage (MV) switchgear, ensuring compliance with IEC standards, accurate protection relay engineering, and timely project delivery.

• Prepare and review SLDs, GA drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and interlocking logic for MV switchgear (AIS/GIS up to 36kV or company scope).
• Perform busbar sizing, short-circuit withstand calculations, and thermal considerations.
• Ensure compliance with IEC 62271 series and other applicable IEC standards.
• Support standardization by using approved engineering templates and libraries.
• Protection & Relay Engineering
• Selection and application of numerical protection relays.
• Perform relay setting calculations (OCR, EF, REF, UV/OV, directional, differential as applicable).
• Configure and program protection relays as per project protection philosophy.
• Develop trip matrix and interlocking logic.
• Support protection coordination studies (ETAP / DigSILENT preferred).
• Assist during FAT and commissioning for relay validation and troubleshooting.
• Application Engineering
• Review customer technical specifications and prepare compliance statements.
• Identify technical deviations and propose optimized solutions.
• Support sales and project teams with technical clarifications.
• Testing & Project Support
• Prepare and review routine test procedures.
• Support factory acceptance tests (FAT).
• Provide technical support during manufacturing and site-related queries.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 5-10 years of experience in MV switchgear design and protection engineering.

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of IEC 62271 series and IEC protection standards (IEC 60255).
• Hands-on experience in numerical relay programming (ABB / Siemens / Schneider or equivalent).
• Knowledge of protection coordination studies.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD / EPLAN or equivalent tools.
