A prominent zoo in the UAE seeks a Zoo Educator to teach visitors about animals and promote conservation efforts. Responsibilities include presenting live shows, engaging with school groups, and preparing educational materials. Ideal candidates hold a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and possess excellent presentation and customer service skills. Educating and assisting the public with all animal-related information including show presentation, school orientations, face-to-face discussion, and organizing of events.
Zoo educators are responsible for teaching visitors about the animals kept at the zoo and promoting conservation efforts.
Public Awareness about conservation, ecosystems, and animal welfare to promote conservation efforts and to enhance flora and fauna protection. This exchange of information can be conducted formally (in lectures and guided tours) or informally (answering questions).
Engage with school and visitors by providing information about Emirates Park Zoo and its collection of animals.
Present live animal shows and education demonstrations (in-situ programs) for the schools and visitors.
Interact with veterinarians, nutritionists, trainers, zoo keepers, and other zoo staff to keep up to date with the latest happenings at the zoo and its animals.
Contributing and conducting ex-situ educational presentations and exhibitions to increase public awareness/public knowledge and interest about flora and fauna by opening the floor for them to be a link to conserve animals. (That may involve bringing and handling live animals.)
Preparing educational materials for presentations. These items may include posters, brochures, banners, workbooks, and other handouts.
Handle guest concerns and resolve problems in a manner that is polite, helpful, and accurate.
Answer questions, provide accurate information, and interact with visitors in a manner that is welcoming and encourages repeat visits.
Engage with Volunteers and Interns of EPZ to achieve zoo goals.
If needed, involved with producing videos, taking photos, and creating multimedia presentations used to promote the zoo and its programs.
Educate people to give correct foods for animals to keep them healthy and also conducting Educators Talk about Animals and Conservation to interact with the guests. (This involves engaging with staff stations in Petting zoo area, Monkey area, Giraffe area, Animal Paradise, and Domestic area).
Provide experiences for visitors to enable them to make choices about their impact upon the environment. (Both positive and negative).
If needed, help with any emergency incidents relevant to animals and people.
If needed, help with animal observations to keep animals healthy.
Education Qualifications and Training
Bachelor’s degrees in Natural Sciences, education, communications, zoology, biology, animal science, or a related field.
Excellent presentation skills, with the ability to adapt to audiences of different ages and learning abilities.
