Job description

The Education and Conservation Team Leader at World Butterfly Park will be responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of educational programs and conservation initiatives. This role requires a passion for environmental education, conservation, and a deep understanding of butterfly and plant ecology. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic leader capable of inspiring and managing a team of educators and conservationists while fostering partnerships with local schools, organizations, and the community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Development and Management:
    • Develop, implement, and evaluate educational programs for diverse audiences including school groups, families, and adults.
    • Create engaging educational materials and resources related to butterfly biology, ecology, and conservation.
    • Coordinate and lead workshops, tours, and presentations both onsite and offsite.
  • Conservation Initiatives:
    • Develop and oversee conservation projects focused on butterfly habitat preservation, restoration, and research.
    • Monitor and report on the health and status of butterfly populations within the garden.
    • Collaborate with local, regional, and national conservation organizations to support broader conservation goals.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Recruit, train, and supervise a team of education and conservation staff and volunteers.
    • Foster a positive and collaborative team environment.
    • Conduct regular team meetings and provide ongoing professional development opportunities.
  • Community Engagement and Partnerships:
    • Build and maintain relationships with local schools, community groups, and environmental organizations.
    • Represent the Butterfly Garden at community events, meetings, and conferences.
    • Develop and implement outreach strategies to increase community involvement and support for the garden’s programs.
  • Administrative Duties:
    • Prepare and manage budgets for educational and conservation programs.
    • Maintain records and prepare reports on program activities, attendance, and outcomes.
    • Assist with grant writing and fundraising efforts to support educational and conservation initiatives.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Education, Conservation Biology, Ecology, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 35 years of experience in environmental education and/or conservation.
  • Strong knowledge of butterfly and plant ecology.
  • Proven experience in program development and team leadership.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and lead tours for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
