JOB DESCRIPTION

Wood is recruiting for an Electrical & Instrumentation Construction Engineer (Work Pack) to join its UAE Business Unit, focusing on developing, coordinating, and managing Electrical & Instrumentation construction workpacks for a Major Onshore brownfield project in Sharjah, UAE. This is a full‑time office‑based role in Sharjah, UAE with travel requirement.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop detailed E&I construction workpacks covering scope, job steps, drawings, loop folders, cable schedules, termination details, installation standards, tools/equipment, manpower requirements, and QA/QC checklists.
  • Incorporate latest IFC drawings and define installation methodology for electrical equipment, instruments, junction boxes, cables, earthing, lighting systems, and control systems.
  • Capture all testing & commissioning prerequisites such as continuity tests, insulation resistance, loop checks, instrument calibration, and pre‑energization checks.
  • Conduct field visits to confirm constructability and identify site constraints.
  • Coordinate with planning to sequence E&I activities and enter them into the Level 4 construction schedule.
  • Verify availability of materials before job execution and ensure workpacks include required scaffolding, temporary power, lifting arrangements, hazardous area compliance, and special tools/meters.
  • Act as the coordination point between engineering, procurement, QA/QC, completions, construction supervisors, and subcontractors.
  • Support pre‑job briefings, toolbox talks, and daily coordination meetings.
  • Embed HSE requirements in each workpack, including hazard identification, JHA/JSA, lockout‑tagout (LOTO), and SIMOPS considerations.
  • Define inspection points and test requirements: cable testing, continuity, IR testing, torque checks, loop checks, functional tests.
  • Track progress and provide updates on construction status, constraints, and punch list closures.
  • Support system/subsystem walkdowns for Mechanical Completion (MC) and coordinate with commissioning teams for energization readiness and handover packages.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 8–10+ years in E&I construction for oil & gas plants, EPC projects, refineries, or petrochemical facilities.
  • Experience creating E&I work packs or hands‑on E&I construction/installation.
  • Strong experience with field instruments, DCS/PLC systems, electrical distribution, lighting, earthing, and control systems.
  • Exposure to brownfield projects, live‑plant environments, and SIMOPS preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret E&I drawings: SLDs, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, loop diagrams, P&IDs, hook‑up drawings.
  • Knowledge of IEC/IEEE/NEC/ISA standards and familiarity with testing tools (megger, multimeter, calibrators, loop checking tools).
  • Experience with permit‑to‑work systems, LOTO, and hazardous area installations.
  • Strong coordination, communication, and problem‑solving skills with a strong safety culture.
  • Ability to work under pressure and in remote field environments.
