About the Role

Grade Level (for internal use): 13

The Team

The team covers emerging and frontier markets across the Middle East, Africa and Central Asia with a focus on Sovereigns and Financial Institutions. The team is comprised of 15 analysts based out of our Dubai, Johannesburg, London and Frankfurt offices.

The Impact

This role is critical to the team's success in covering over 130 credits across sovereigns government-related entities (GREs), financial institutions and multilateral development institutions (MLIs). As a director you will be expected to be a subject matter expert and effectively leverage resources to ensure timely and high-quality deliverables.

What You Stand to Gain

In this role you will have the opportunity to provide senior analytical oversight over ratings and research publications. You will manage client and external stakeholder relationships and mentor and coach less experienced members of your Pod. This position offers a platform for continuous learning and development empowering you to influence and innovate within the market.

Responsibilities
  • Assume analytical oversight responsibility for a broad portfolio of credits across Sovereigns and Financial Institutions with a primary focus on CIS and neighbouring countries. Accountable for ensuring timely rating surveillance and high-quality publications. Responsibilities also include taking ownership of complex analytical issues and delivery of new engagements.
  • Role model and actively support primary analysts in managing analytical relationships with issuers in the portfolio.
  • Develop and execute on our research and investor outreach plan in coordination with the Analytical Manager and Sector Lead.
  • Mentor and coach Pod members to build capabilities across providing exceptional issuer service, sector analysis, emerging risks and other success factors relating to our analytical insights and market relevance.
  • Act as a primary analyst on up to 50% of a standard portfolio for an analyst.
  • Lead or contribute to analytical projects including criteria research and thought leadership pieces.
What We're Looking For
  • A S&P employee at this level typically has 10 years analytical experience in sovereign and financial institutions analysis.
  • Degree in a relevant economics-related field; a Masters degree CFA or financial qualification is desirable.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English are essential with fluency in Russian required and Arabic a plus.
  • Demonstrable leadership skills with the ability to mentor coach and develop team members.
  • Strong organizational skills and a collaborative execution-focused leadership approach.
