Job summary

Amana Healthcare in Abu Dhabi is seeking a Dietitian to support post-acute rehabilitation within the PAR service. You will assess patients, plan and monitor nutrition interventions to aid recovery and functional outcomes, working closely with an interdisciplinary team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Dietetics or equivalent.
  • Current professional registration/licensure with the relevant regulatory authority (e.g., DHA, HCPC, CORU, DOH, or equivalent).
  • Minimum 2-3 years of post-qualification clinical dietetic experience.
  • Experience managing adult patients with complex medical conditions.
  • Strong understanding of nutrition support, rehabilitation principles, and patient-centred care.
  • Master's degree in Clinical Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field (Desirable).
  • Experience in rehabilitation, neurology, stroke, long-term care, or post-acute settings (Desirable).
  • Training in enteral nutrition management and dysphagia care (Desirable).

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive nutritional assessments for patients admitted to the rehabilitation service.
  • Develop individualized nutrition care plans based on patient goals, medical condition, rehabilitation needs, and dietary requirements.
  • Assess and manage patients at risk of malnutrition, dehydration, weight loss, and feeding difficulties.
  • Monitor nutritional progress and modify interventions as required.
  • Provide enteral nutrition assessment and management, including PEG and nasogastric feeding where applicable.
  • Support patients with dysphagia in collaboration with Speech and Language Therapists and the wider multidisciplinary team.
  • Participate in discharge planning to ensure continuity of nutritional care.

The Dietitian in a Post Acute Rehabilitation (PAR) service is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and monitoring evidence-based nutritional interventions to support patient recovery, rehabilitation outcomes, and overall health. The role involves working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team (IDT) to optimize nutritional status, prevent and manage malnutrition, support complex medical conditions, and promote patient independence and quality of life. The Dietitian provides patient-centred care for individuals recovering from acute illness, neurological conditions, stroke, orthopedic injuries, respiratory disorders, and other complex rehabilitation needs.

Responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive nutritional assessments for patients admitted to the rehabilitation service.
  • Develop individualized nutrition care plans based on patient goals, medical condition, rehabilitation needs, and dietary requirements.
  • Assess and manage patients at risk of malnutrition, dehydration, weight loss, and feeding difficulties.
  • Monitor nutritional progress and modify interventions as required.
  • Provide enteral nutrition assessment and management, including PEG and nasogastric feeding where applicable.
  • Support patients with dysphagia in collaboration with Speech and Language Therapists and the wider multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide dietary management for complex conditions including:
    • Stroke and neurological disorders
    • Diabetes mellitus
    • Cardiovascular disease
    • Respiratory conditions
    • Renal disease
    • Wound healing and pressure injury prevention
    • Obesity and weight management
  • Participate in discharge planning to ensure continuity of nutritional care.
Multidisciplinary Team Collaboration
  • Work closely with physicians, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, psychologists, and social workers.
  • Participate in regular interdisciplinary team meetings and goal-setting discussions.
  • Contribute to patient-centred rehabilitation plans and discharge recommendations.
  • Provide expert nutritional advice to team members regarding patient management.
Patient and Family Education
  • Educate patients and families on nutrition-related aspects of recovery and long-term health.
  • Develop educational resources and dietary guidelines.
  • Promote healthy eating habits and self-management strategies.
  • Support patients and carers in implementing nutritional recommendations following discharge.
Quality and Service Development
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits, and service development projects.
  • Contribute to development and review of clinical guidelines, policies, and pathways.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and professional documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational, professional, and regulatory standards.
Professional Development
  • Maintain professional registration and continuing professional development requirements.
  • Participate in mandatory training and competency programs.
  • Engage in evidence-based practice and remain current with emerging nutrition and rehabilitation research.
  • Support student education, mentoring, and staff development activities where appropriate.
