Role Summary
The Ad-Hoc Crane Maintenance Mechanical Technician is responsible for carrying out the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of offshore crane mechanical systems, both on offshore platforms and in the onshore workshop. The position requires flexibility to alternate between offshore and onshore duties based on operational needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Offshore Crane Maintenance: Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance and mechanical repairs on offshore cranes, winches, hoists and related equipment.
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues on cranes, identifying faults in the hydraulic, mechanical and electrical systems, and taking corrective actions.
- Assist in the disassembly and assembly of crane components offshore, including gearboxes, hoists, brakes, drums and hydraulic systems.
- Support the Offshore Crane Maintenance Supervisor to ensure 5‑yearly major maintenance overhauls are completed on time and downtime is minimised.
- Maintain accurate records of all offshore maintenance work, including work orders, inspection reports and parts used.
- Collaborate with offshore personnel and ensure safe and efficient lifting operations while minimising crane downtime.
- Ensure adherence to Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) protocols during all mechanical maintenance activities offshore.
- Onshore Workshop (Crane Component Overhaul): Disassemble, inspect and overhaul critical crane mechanical components such as gearboxes, hoists, drums and winches.
- Lead the mechanical overhaul of crane components, ensuring parts are refurbished, repaired or replaced to meet operational and safety standards.
- Conduct thorough inspections of crane parts, identifying wear, damage or potential failure points, and recommend necessary repairs or replacements.
- Assemble and test crane components after overhauling to ensure they meet manufacturer specifications and operational requirements.
- Document all workshop work, including inspection results, repairs and parts replacements.
- Collaborate with workshop team members to ensure timely and efficient completion of crane overhauls.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe workshop environment, adhering to all safety standards.
- Assist in spare parts inventory management for crane components, ensuring parts are ordered and available.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certifications in mechanical, electrical or crane maintenance fields required.
- English language proficiency (good writing and vocabulary).
- Minimum of 3 years offshore experience in a crane mechanical maintenance role.
- Hands‑on experience in the mechanical maintenance and overhaul of cranes, winches, hoists and related equipment.
- Previous experience in an onshore workshop setting, performing mechanical overhauls of crane components (preferred).
- Knowledge of mechanical systems (hydraulic, mechanical and electrical) and their function within crane operations.
- Experience in stripping down and rebuilding winches, motors and pumps.
- Experience in testing and pressure‑testing crane components – cylinders etc.
- Competent with crane maintenance and inspections.
- Able to understand maintenance drawings, hydraulic drawings, isometric drawings, etc.
- Ability to compile and complete technical maintenance procedures.
- Basic IT skills – Word, Excel, etc.
- SAP system knowledge.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or related fields.
- OPITO Approved BOSIET, OGUK Medical.
- Desire to increase technical and management skills.
