Job summary

Astra ProMed in Abu Dhabi is seeking a Consultant Thoracic Surgeon to lead advanced thoracic procedures, including lung resections, VATS, and complex chest reconstructions, within accredited clinical privileges.

The successful candidate will oversee pre-op planning, post-op care, and collaborate with pulmonology, oncology, anesthesia, and radiology teams, contributing to high-quality patient outcomes in a state-of-the-art facility.

Qualifications

• MBBS/MD or equivalent recognized medical degree.
• Postgraduate qualification in Thoracic Surgery or equivalent advanced training.
• Board certification or consultant-level qualification recognized internationally.
• Eligible for DOH Consultant Thoracic Surgery classification/license in Abu Dhabi.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and surgically manage lung diseases, pleural disorders, mediastinal masses, and other thoracic conditions.
• Perform thoracic surgical procedures including lung resections, lobectomy, and pleural surgery.
• Conduct video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) and minimally invasive thoracic procedures.
• Evaluate and manage patients with lung cancer, pulmonary nodules, pneumothorax, and chest wall abnormalities.
• Perform thoracic biopsies, mediastinal procedures, and chest wall reconstruction where trained.
• Manage thoracic trauma and emergency chest conditions.
• Pre-operative assessments and develop individualized surgical plans.
• Interpret chest imaging and diagnostic investigations (CT, PET-CT, MRI, PFTs).
• Provide post-operative care and manage surgical complications.
• Collaborate with pulmonologists, oncologists, anesthesiologists, intensivists, radiologists and teams.
• Ensure DOH regulations, surgical safety, infection control and patient safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose and surgically manage lung diseases, pleural disorders, mediastinal masses, and other thoracic conditions
• Perform thoracic surgical procedures, including lung resections, lobectomy, and pleural surgery, within authorized clinical privileges
• Conduct video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) and other minimally invasive thoracic procedures
• Evaluate and manage patients with lung cancer, pulmonary nodules, pneumothorax, and chest wall abnormalities
• Perform thoracic biopsies, mediastinal procedures, and chest wall reconstruction, where appropriately trained and credentialed
• Manage thoracic trauma, hemothorax, and other emergency chest conditions
• Conduct comprehensive pre-operative assessments and develop individualized surgical treatment plans
• Interpret diagnostic investigations, including chest CT, PET-CT, MRI, pulmonary function tests, and thoracic imaging
• Provide post-operative care, monitor recovery, and manage surgical complications
• Collaborate with pulmonologists, oncologists, anesthesiologists, intensivists, radiologists, and multidisciplinary surgical teams
• Ensure compliance with DOH regulations, surgical safety protocols, infection control, and patient safety standards

Requirements

• MBBS/MD or equivalent recognized medical degree
• Recognized postgraduate qualification in Thoracic Surgery, or an accepted surgical qualification with recognized advanced thoracic surgery training
• Board certification or equivalent recognized consultant-level qualification
• American Board, UK CCT, Canadian, Australian, European, or other internationally recognized qualifications are highly desirable
• Minimum 5-10 years of relevant post-specialization experience preferred
• Strong expertise in lung resections, minimally invasive thoracic surgery, thoracic oncology, and complex chest procedures
• Experience in VATS, robotic-assisted thoracic surgery, or advanced thoracic reconstruction is highly desirable
• Eligible for the appropriate DOH Consultant Thoracic Surgery classification/license in Abu Dhabi, subject to applicable UAE PQR requirements and clinical privileges
